Every once in a while, life gives you the chance to come full circle.

When Clearflo was nothing more than a dream fueled by my passion and determination, there was a gentleman aptly also named Kevin, who saw enough in me to spend countless hours on the phone sharing a lifetime of knowledge, engineering experience, and wisdom that most people would have charged dearly for. He never rushed the conversations.

He was a senior engineer for a company in Victoria BC, that supplied some of the vital and particular equipment I needed in the development of my water treatment systems. He never held back. He simply invested in someone who was hungry to learn. I pushed myself beyond my own limits and found new ones, as I learned what I needed to know.

When Kevin unexpectedly stopped by the shop a few months ago, I was genuinely caught off guard. It reminded me of just how much of my early journey had been shaped by his generousity. Today, I had the privilege of inviting him back for coffee, a tour, and a chance to catch up.

Watching him walk through our facility, seeing what Clearflo has become, was one of those rare full circle moments are hard to describe. Looking past the gratitude in my eyes I could see the pride in his. None of us get where we are entirely on our own. Along the way, some or many choose to believe in us, to teach us and to give us a piece of themselves. Kevin Bushnell was one of those people for me, and I will always be truly grateful.

Thank you my friend. A part of Clearflo exists because you chose to share your gift with someone who simply wanted to learn. I hope today showed you that your investment in me was never wasted.

How did we get to be so fortunate to do what we do?

Having the opportunity to help provide safe, clean drinking water to First Nations communities is both an honour and a privilege. We all know that our work carries purpose far beyond the systems we build.

From the first analysis of source water, to the first full glass of clean water, we love designing and building these magic machines, for truly amazing people!

Out on site today with St’uxwtéws (Bonaparte First Nation) and Acres Enterprises, as we advance the planning for what will be the third Water Treatment System we have constructed for the community.

A key part of this work is walking the site together, laying out future piping routes, and ensuring every step aligns with the guidance and processes of the archaeological and cultural heritage teams. These on site meetings are essential not only for good project delivery, but for building relationships founded on respect, collaboration, and recognition of Indigenous knowledge and stewardship of the land.

O&M training day for Taylor at Dzawada'enuxw!

Her son West (our grandson) joined us and participated with such excitement and curiosity throughout the day. Helping First Nations maintain sustainable access to safe, clean water is at the core of our work, however it's not only technical, it's very much human centered and socio cultural involvement. It's opening your heart as wide as our can.

Seeing our children visit communities, build relationships, and share smiles with other children in the Nation is profoundly important. These young people are our future, and every opportunity to foster understanding, connection, and respect helps strengthen the bonds between communities and generations.

We must lead by example, demonstrating the values of collaboration, kindness, and service. By bringing our children into these experiences, we help them appreciate the importance of community, stewardship, and the meaningful work being done to support healthy and thriving Nations for generations to come.

We are so lucky, to be able to do what we do!

This is wonderful news! Congratulations to K’ómoks First Nation, the traditional, ancestral territory we reside in.

The K’ómoks Treaty Act (Bill 20) is now officially an Act of the Province of British Columbia

The K’ómoks Treaty Act (Bill 20) has reached a historic milestone. Late this afternoon, the bill received Royal Assent and is now an Act of the Province of British Columbia.

This comes after the bill passed Third Reading earlier today in the BC Legislature, with 53 MLAs voting in favour and 39 against.

This achievement reflects decades of work by K’ómoks members, Elders, leaders, negotiators, and community members who have remained committed to advancing a modern treaty and building a stronger future for the Nation.

Next, we will turn our efforts toward preparations for the federal legislative process, as the K’ómoks Treaty must still be ratified by the Parliament of Canada. Following federal ratification, the Parties will work together to establish an Effective Date and continue preparations for implementation.

This World Water Day, we’re reminded that access to clean, safe drinking water is not a privilege, it’s a fundamental right.

At Clearflo Solutions Inc., we are proud to design, manufacture, and deploy water systems that support Indigenous communities and remove drinking water advisories. With that said, meaningful change doesn’t happen in a single day of recognition, it happens through consistent action, thoughtful stewardship, and a shared commitment to doing better every day. We are lucky to be doing what we do and have the ability to continue, this does not mean that everyone else can't play a role.

Whether it’s conserving water, supporting sustainable practices, or advancing solutions for communities in need, each of us has a role to play. Knowledge is the first step, and with this comes awareness, imagination and resource. Imagine for just a moment, not having running water in your taps, and no stores within hundreds of miles to purchase bottles of water. This is the reality for millions, and for decades.

Let today be more than a moment, let it be a catalyst for ongoing impact.

Coffee and a catch up today with two truly special people.

Today I had Ananthan Suppiah (Manager, ISC) and Peter Elson (Senior Engineer, ISC) to the shop today. Two remarkable men who dedicated their careers at Indigenous Services Canada to advancing safe, clean drinking water for Indigenous communities and First Nations in particular. In the years I was lucky enough to work along side, they helped me to learn and I earned their trust; for that I will always be grateful.

Though now retired, the impact of their work is lasting and profound. As a designer / developer of treatment systems, working alongside ISC, I’ve come to know Ananthan and Peter not just as leaders, but as two of the most gracious, thoughtful, and intentional human beings I’ve ever met. Their integrity, humility and care for the communities they served set a standard I truly admire.

Our friendship is something I’ll never take lightly. Grateful for the visit, the conversation, and the shared history.

I am constantly reminded that I have managed to create the dream I once had. One where the 'company' Clearflo Solutions Inc.became more of a 'movement', and contributing as best it can to those in need of safe, clean water.

At the same time, my values remained at the forefront, and were aligned and evolving. I didn’t realize it would be the mechanism it turned out to be; aiding in continuing to learning about myself, and the world along the way. When I began to surround myself with the ‘right ones’, everything started to unfold exactly as it should. That last ingredient was paramount; the perfect minds to punch our way forward with fists made of hearts.

Currently these amazing human beings who came to the table each carry a peculiarly unique and wonderful set of gifts and personalities. Together, they embody everything ‘the right ones’ were meant to be, and they truly tick every box.

Just look at the spectacular Indigenous friends for life we have found, and the great things we have done together. So proud of it all.

Just take a moment to appreciate our absolutely magnificent friends, and colleagues in Government that are truly committed to clean water for the Nations: ISC, FNHA, and the contractors that align with us!

Brodie: my wife, best friend, and the glue that holds it all together. From finances to planning to keeping us on track, she somehow handles it all flawlessly. (Truly amazing.)

Chris: a next level mind for computer logic and programming. So sharp he’s literally shown a manufacturer how to run their own control valving equipment in a way they were sure was not possible (Yes, that really happened.)

Sean: fierce, committed, and incredibly versatile. Our newest team member who’s already proven just how much he brings to the table in a very short time. Just yesterday, he looked at an engineered lift device and instantly came up with a way to make it operate better, safer and specific to our needs (He's frequently cooler than all of us.)
