Hello Comox Valley! I my name is Mel, and I'm offering Somatic Integrative Bodywork for individuals in the LGBTQIA+ community.

These are 90 min sessions, on a pay what you can basis. Suggested is $60-$200
[sliding scale: pay what feels right for you; those who can afford to pay more help to subsidize the cost for others]

What is Somatic Integrative Bodywork, you say?

Working with the mind and body relationship, I invite you to release, unwind, and receive support into new experiences of your body, through touch, massage, and somatic movement & experiencing.

This is bodywork that goes beyond massage, and offers integration of alignment and postural work, as well as supporting mental and emotional wellbeing.

Somatic Integrative Bodywork will benefit anyone who is experiencing discomfort in or about their body, including (but not limited to) hormone-related physical changes; post-surgical physical changes; stress, tension, and/or trauma held in the body; recovery from mild injuries.

This is NOT Registered Massage Therapy, and this is NOT a medical service.

And who am I, to be offering this?

I am a 2nd generation, mixed-race bodyworker with over a decade of professional massage experience, trained in Deep Tissue, Swedish, Deep Flow, Joint Release, and Somatic Movement. I also sit on the faculty for the Bodywork Therapy course at Vancouver School of Healing Arts, and am currently studying towards my certification in Somatic Experiencing.

I’m a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Health & Safety Protocols:
I ask all clients to self test for Covid before coming for a session.
Please do not attend if you are sick, have recently had symptoms of any contagious sickness, or have been in close proximity to someone who have a contagious sickness.
A HEPA filter will be running throughout and windows will be open for additional airflow when possible.
Masking enthusiastically welcomed. Masks can be provided.

Want to book? Please send me an email at melinacassidy [at] gmail.com and let me know what interests you about receiving Somatic Integrative Bodywork!

I work from my home and therefore screen clients.
I also live with chronic illness, and can only see 2-3 clients/week max.

I look forward to hearing from you!

The freeze response is something we've all experienced. Have you ever felt like this baby deer? Maybe you were frightened, or overwhelmed by something?
Caring for and nourishing our nervous systems is one of the most healing things we can do for ourselves and one another. Look how gentle and tender the momma deer is with her little one!

Fibromyalgia and other chronic pain and fatigue conditions affect so many people I know and love. I don't know if this can be seen as 'definative' in the study of root causes of these conditions, but my studies of somatics informs me that there's something here that's worth paying attention to. Healing the body as we heal the mind; healing the soul as we heal the body. This, to me, is the ultimate path of healing.

Anger and Stress Management Tips for Satisfying Relationships by Dr. Jeanette Raymond, Ph.D. Starting the day with fibromyalgia pain made Vera angry Fibromyalgia made it hard for 46 year old Vera to get her legs out of bed in the morning. As she moved toward the bathroom and began her toilette the p...

"We need to change our way of thinking and seeing things. We need to realise that the Earth is not just our environment. The Earth is not something outside of us. Breathing with mindfulness and contemplating your body, you realise that you are the Earth. You realise that your consciousness is also the consciousness of the Earth. Look around you–what you see is not your environment, it is you."

Thich Nhat Hanh explains the key to personal and collective happiness and survival.

"“Spirituality is recognizing and celebrating that we are all inextricably connected to each other by a power greater than all of us, and that our connection to that power and to one another is grounded in love and compassion. Practicing spirituality brings a sense of perspective, meaning, and purpose to our lives.”"

Harshada Wagner is one of my favorite teachers from many (many!) years ago (um, I was... 15? 16?). Love the differentiation he draws here.

Love this! Music is SO healing.
What is your favorite relaxation music to listen to?

Music fans and meditators know that feeling connected to ourselves feels great. We can train our brains to feel that good without music.
