Nupqu is thankful to have been a part of the 49th Annual BC Technical & Research Committee on Reclamation (TRCR) Award Ceremony!

Nupqu and Elk Valley Resources (EVR) were awarded with the Reclamation Award in the Coal Mining Category for our collaborative work on understory native plant reclamation program. This recognition is a reflection of the dedication, collaboration, and shared commitment behind meaningful reclamation and environmental stewardship.

As a Ktunaxa owned company, Nupqu is grateful to be able to contribute Ktunaxa perspectives, knowledge, and values to by supporting projects that restore landscapes, strengthen ecosystems, and contribute to a more sustainable future. We are proud to be working together with our project partners in reclamation efforts to create a lasting sustainable environment for generations to come.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this achievement, which included the team at Nupqu, the team at EVR, the other native plant nurseries who participated in the program and the planters on site. It is wonderful to see what can be accomplished through collaborative partnership, shared knowledge, and a commitment to restoring the land.

Happy Thanksgiving from Nupqu!

As we celebrate Thanksgiving, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the many things we are grateful for: our people, our communities, our partnerships, and the lands that continue to teach, support, and sustain us.

We are especially grateful for the opportunity to work on and care for the lands and waters of ʔamakʔis Ktunaxa. Our connection to the land reminds us of the importance of respect, stewardship, reciprocity, and looking after for the generations to come.

We are thankful for our incredible Nupcrew, whose dedication and hard work make everything we do possible. We’re also grateful for our clients, partners, and communities who continue to support and work alongside us.

May this Thanksgiving be a time to slow down, spend time with loved ones, enjoy the land around us, and reflect on all that we have to be thankful for.

Wishing everyone a safe, happy, and meaningful Thanksgiving from all of us at Nupqu!

September 30th is a day to honour the survivors of residential schools, remember the children who never returned home, and recognize the lasting impacts residential schools have had on Indigenous families and communities.

For Nupqu, as a Ktunaxa owned business, Truth and Reconciliation Day is an opportunity to reflect, listen, learn, and take meaningful steps towards building respectful relationships.

We encourage our employees, clients, partners, and community to wear orange, and take time this September 30th to learn about the history and experiences of Indigenous Peoples, support Indigenous voices, Indigenous businesses, and participate in local events taking place through the Kootenays.

Please reference our attached photos of Truth and Reconciliation Events hosted in the Ktunaxa ʔamakʔis.

This summer, Nupqu crews continue to support invasive plant management efforts in the Kimberley area by removing blueweed. While it may look attractive, blueweed is an invasive species that spreads rapidly, displaces native plants, reduces wildlife habitat, and impacts local ecosystems. By removing these plants before they produce seed, we're helping protect biodiversity, improve public spaces, and preserve the natural beauty of our community. It's another example of how the work our crews do today creates lasting benefits for tomorrow.

You can make a difference too! Whether it's controlling invasive plants on your own property or taking a few minutes to pull invasive weeds while you're out enjoying local trails (where appropriate and safe to do so), every small action helps reduce their spread and protects our natural environment. Together, we can all play a role in keeping our landscapes healthy for future generations.
