Immediate Archaeological Field Technician Positions for the 2025 Fall Field Season

DMA is anticipating a busy fall/winter 2025 field season, and we are collecting a pool of qualified candidates for upcoming archaeological field technician positions. Positions will be project and weather pending. Ideal candidates can travel throughout Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, overnight, Monday to Friday. Candidates will have a passion for the outdoors, able conduct strenuous work, and be able to hike off the beaten path for up to 10km a day in most types of weather. Previous archaeological experience, ability to work as part of a team, orienteering and bush skills are assets.

Davis MacIntyre & Associates are on site to complete an archeological survey of Sherbrooke Village. Johanna and Laura are making test pits at the Courthouse in preparation for a restoration project this autumn.

Day 2 of Mi’kmaq history month.

Do you know the difference between Mi’kmaw and Mi’kmaq?

Mi’kmaw (mee-gah-maw) is the singular form of Mi’kmaq. It is an adjective that proceeds a noun.

Example:
This is a Mi’kmaw Dance. My Mi’kmaw husband. This is a Mi’kmaw gathering. Mi’kmaw Teacher.

Mi’kmaq (mee-gah-mah) is the plural. It can not be used as an adjective. It refers to the entire group of people.

Example:
The Mi’kmaq live here. Mi’kmaq attend this school. The Mi’kmaq have been invited.

Micmac is the mispronouncation of Mi’kmaq.

Davis MacIntyre and Associates is offering immediate project based archaeological field technician positions this Fall. Some flexibility will be offered to successful candidates with week-by-week positions if other commitments have already been made.

Successful Candidates shall:

• Follow local and provincial public health protocols relating to COVID-19.

• Be able to hike 10kms per day with enough food and water for the work day in remote locations.

• Be able to travel Monday to Friday and stay in small team bubbles.

• Be comfortable with GPS and backwoods orienteering.

• Be able to lift at least 50lbs, be comfortable shovel testing and screening heavy soil for an entire work day.

Food and accommodation will be provided in small workplace bubbles for out of town projects.
