Dauphin Fire Department Serving the Citizens For Over A Century ~ 2026 Marked Our 125th Anniversary Thank you for visiting and have a safe day!

Dispatched via the Provincial 911 system, we are a paid call fire service with a complement of 36 front line firefighters; trained to Level I and II Firefighter; NFPA 1001 – Standard for Professional Firefighter Qualifications. The Dauphin Fire Department serves the citizens of both the City and Rural Municipality of Dauphin covering an approximate area of 1,036 square kilometers and a population of 10,845 (2016 census). We respond to incidents in the City and surrounding municipality including fires (of any type), motor vehicle collisions, rescues, water rescue as well as basic hazardous materials calls. The Dauphin Fire Department works closely with the members of the Sifton Fire Department located approximately 30 kilometers north of the City of Dauphin. The history of the Dauphin Fire Department goes all the way back to 1901 when the first organized Fire Brigade was established. The first piece of apparatus was a horse drawn pump, which was sold after the Town of Dauphin purchased its first motorized piece of firefighting apparatus, a 1917 Chevrolet 490. The 1917, along with a 1936 Pumper, have been restored by the Firefighter’s Association and hold a special place of distinction as showpieces of the Department. Our Firefighter’s Association performs many volunteer duties to raise donations from the community, with which they purchase much needed equipment and donate back to the Fire Department. The Dauphin Fire Department is also involved throughout the year in Public Education, Fire and Life Safety Inspections, and Pre-Incident Planning. If you require any additional information regarding the services we provide, or just have a general inquiry, please feel free contact us.

An article taken from the Dauphin Herald dated March 12, 1959 stating that the fire department would not be responding to incidents beyond a one-half mile radius of the town? Yes, it happened. Not just in 1959, but a couple other times as well. We are very thankful for the relationship we see today between the City of Dauphin and the RM of Dauphin in regard to the administration and the elected officials. They have worked collaboratively together funding the fire department for many years now to ensure the safety of our citizens.

Nobody joins the fire department for personal gain. Members join to help their friends, family, neighbors and complete strangers in their time of need. Up until January 02, 2008, there were only "volunteer" fire fighters, who were paid to attend training, emergency response and weekend standby. In 2008, the City moved to a full-time Fire Prevention Officer, that position was responsible to conduct fire inspections as per the Province of Manitoba's Fire Prevention & Emergency Response Act, perform fire prevention and public education duties, maintain departmental records, ensure fire fighter's training was current, conduct fire cause investigations and to ensure MB Workplace Safety & Health legislation was being adhered to.

Prior to 2011, the Fire Chief was paid a monthly stipend in addition to being paid for every training session, emergency response, weekend standby and also received a vehicle allowance for the use of their personal vehicle. In February 2011, the full-time Fire Prevention Officer role was removed from the department's operations, and a full-time Fire Chief was implemented. Something that you may see from the other article attached from September 17, 1936 Dauphin Herald & Press, was recommended by the Province following the inquest into the death of Hose Captain Thomas W. Scrase. It was also suggested in a review by the MB Office of the Fire Commissioner in the 1990's that a full-time Fire Chief should be implemented, but administration at that time declined accepting the recommendations in the report.

Always a pleasure to partner up with the home team. The Dauphin Kings are a large part of our community, it’s much more than just hockey. The young men that are from Dauphin and beyond that wear the jersey contribute to the community in many ways. They volunteer within the community, at the schools and assist with many of the other teams in the area.

Our long running tradition of partnering with the team for Fire Prevention Week, is more than just spreading the word about fire safety. It’s about working with yet another organization in the community to support each other!

Looking back to the Dauphin Herald from January 22, 1975, Fire Chief Gordon Seeley reported on the upcoming delivery of the first aerial truck for Dauphin Fire Department. Ladder 5 was in service right up until November 7, 2014 when it suffered an electrical fire following the Riverside Evergreen Funeral Home fire.

Ladder 5 had departed the scene, fueled up and was returning to the fire station when the cab filled with smoke. The operators of the truck successfully extinguished the fire under the dash, but it was too late and it was written off by insurance.

Ladder 5 was replaced with Truck 12 in the summer of 2015, which has served our community extremely well.
