🚨 IRCC Update: Restoration of Status as a Visitor for Workers & Students
If a temporary resident in Canada loses their status as a worker or student, there’s now an important new pathway to remain in Canada
👉 You may now be able to restore your status as a VISITOR
This reflects a meaningful shift in how restoration options are applied under updated IRCC operational guidance.
🔍 What’s Changed?
Previously, restoration was typically limited to returning to your previous status (worker/student).
Now:
âś… You can apply to restore status as a visitor
âś… Must apply within 90 days of losing status
âś… Must meet visitor requirements (intent, funds, compliance)
❌ No work or study allowed until a new permit is approved
đź’ˇ Why This Matters
This creates a critical safety net for individuals who:
No longer qualify for a work or study permit
Need time to reassess immigration options
Want to remain legally in Canada while planning next steps
⚠️ Important
Restoration is not automatic and assessed case-by-case
Leaving Canada during restoration = application refusal
📌 If you or your client has recently fallen out of status, this update could open a new strategic pathway.
