FIRE PREVENTION WEEK 2026
Safe Charging Is a Superpower! ⚡
Fire Prevention Week is October 4–10, 2026.
This year’s theme, “Charge Into Fire Safety. Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” focuses on something most of us do every day: charging our phones, tablets, laptops, e-bikes, scooters and other devices.
Lithium-ion batteries are a part of our everyday lives, but improper charging or damaged batteries can create serious fire risks.
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to speak with their children about lithium-ion batteries and how to charge their devices safely. A few simple habits can help keep your family safe:
⚡ Use the charger designed for your device
⚡ Follow the manufacturer’s charging instructions
⚡ Charge devices on a hard, flat surface where heat can escape
⚡ Keep charging devices away from beds, couches and other combustible materials
⚡ Don’t use batteries or chargers that are damaged or showing signs of overheating
⚡ Unplug devices when they are fully charged, when recommended by the manufacturer
⚡ Never ignore a battery that is swelling, leaking, smoking or getting unusually hot
Plug in. Power up. Stay safe.
