One of the most beautiful things about Myra’s Kids is the team behind our camps and initiatives.

Our multidisciplinary team brings together grief professionals, mental health professionals, nurses, educators and longtime camp staff, all working together to create a safe, supportive space for every child.

When you say goodbye to a parent, the world shifts beneath your feet. 💔

No matter how old you are, a quiet part of you still feels like someone's child. And when they're gone, that place feels exposed.

When both parents are gone, you stand differently on this earth. You become the elder branch. The ones who anchored you here are no longer beside you, and that truth never becomes simple.

Their voices shaped our thoughts. Their hands steadied our first steps. Their love built the framework we still stand on.

But the bond doesn't vanish.

It lingers in the advice you instinctively hear when facing a hard decision. In the warmth you feel when you do something they would have been proud of. In the love that fills the room when a child is born, a love that feels larger than your own.

Sometimes you see them again in your children: a familiar expression, a shared mannerism, words spoken in a tone you remember. Sometimes in dreams. Sometimes in laughter.

Grief is not weakness. It is the echo of deep love. The pain exists only because something beautiful existed.

So be gentle with the small child still living inside you, the one who once reached for their hand without thinking. Speak kindly to them. Protect them the way your parents once protected you.

Losing your parents changes your place in the world. But it never erases the love that formed you.

They are no longer beside you.
But they are never truly gone. 🤍

💙 When a grieving child withdraws, becomes oppositional, or struggles to regulate their emotions, what might be happening beneath the behaviour?

Join Corrie Sirota at our 6th annual Canadian Children's Grief Symposium as she leads “What Lies Beneath: Understanding the Basic Needs of Bereaved Children,” an interactive session exploring what children’s behaviour may be communicating when they are experiencing grief and loss.

With a strength-based and compassionate approach, this session will explore how grief can show up in children’s behaviour—including both internalizing and externalizing responses—and how we can respond in ways that support rather than simply manage the behaviour.

Drawing on her extensive experience as a psychotherapist, educator, author, and Clinical Director of Myra's Kids Foundation, Corrie will share practical strategies that can be applied in clinical and caregiving settings.

Through hands-on activities and discussion, participants will build skills to better understand the “why” behind behaviour, identify the underlying needs of bereaved children, and discover ways to create greater emotional safety and support.
