More great advice on Lithium Ion Battery safety, this time from Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services.

Extreme heat can damage lithium-ion batteries and increase the risk of fire.

Keep phones, power tools, vapes and spare batteries out of direct sunlight and hot vehicles. Remember to let hot devices cool before charging.

Keep it cool. Charge it safely.

Important Reminder from the Sundre Fire Department

In Alberta, when an emergency vehicle approaches with lights and sirens activated:

You Must Pull Over and Stop: It’s not just a courtesy, it’s the law. Move to the nearest curb or edge of the roadway and stop completely.

For Oncoming Traffic: You are also required to pull over and stop. We might need to use your lane, and not doing so creates a dangerous situation.

Slow Down for Stopped Emergency Vehicles: When passing a stopped emergency vehicle with lights activated, you must slow down to 60 km/h.

By following these rules, you help us reach emergencies safely and efficiently. Thank you for your cooperation!

Great information from the Edson Fire Department!

🔥 Fire Safety Friday – Looks Harmless. It's Not. ⚡

A downed power line might not spark, smoke or put on a dramatic Hollywood show.

That doesn't mean it's safe.

If you come across a downed power line:

⚡ Stay back at least 10 metres (33 feet)
⚡ Never touch the line or anything it may be contacting
⚡ Call 911 and report the location
⚡ If the line is touching your vehicle, stay inside and wait for instructions from emergency responders

And while we're on the subject...

🚧 If emergency crews have blocked off an area, please resist the urge to get a closer look.

We've recently had incidents where people approached emergency scenes and entered restricted areas. Those barriers are there for a reason. Whether it's a downed power line, a collision or another emergency, getting closer puts both you and responders at risk.

The safest place to be is well back from the scene.

Stay back. Let the professionals handle the danger. 🚒⚡

The Town of Drumheller has issued a Fire Restriction, effective July 27, 2026. A Fire Restriction is implemented when weather and environmental conditions increase the risk of wildfire.

During a Fire Restriction:

🔸Burn permits are suspended, and no new permits will be issued.
🔸Fireworks are prohibited.
🔸Recreational fires in bylaw-compliant fire pits are permitted unless otherwise specified.

A Fire Restriction helps reduce the risk of fires while allowing certain low-risk outdoor activities to continue safely. Residents are encouraged to use caution with any outdoor flame and remain aware of current fire conditions.

Drumheller Fire & Rescue has raised a record-breaking $5,240 through its annual Fill the Boot campaign during the Canada Day Parade.

The funds will support Muscular Dystrophy Canada, a cause that Drumheller firefighters have championed since 1971. Across Canada, firefighters have supported Muscular Dystrophy Canada since 1954, helping raise awareness and funds for individuals and families affected by neuromuscular disorders that cause progressive muscle weakness and degeneration.

The success of this year's campaign reflects the continued generosity of the Drumheller community. Over the past five decades, Drumheller Fire and Rescue has contributed more than $122,000 to Muscular Dystrophy Canada through local fundraising efforts.

Drumheller Fire and Rescue extends its sincere thanks to everyone who donated during the Canada Day Parade. Community support continues to play an important role in advancing the work of Muscular Dystrophy Canada and supporting those living with neuromuscular disorders.
