The image was made with a collage of features generated by AI and then assembled in a photo editor.
AI is a handy tool, but I don't believe it should (or could) replace creativity by people. It makes creativity accessible to people like me, and I'll always be upfront when I use it.
I like the algorithms that are less "sophisticated" because I can generate more general globs of features that I can then smoosh together in a photo editor app.
The algorithms that give more "refined" or "coherent" output give me less control. They seem to be trained on very narrow, people-pleasing material that limits malleability. Of course, you can adjust parts of them, even at different points in the generation, but that's still dependent on the algorithm's bias.
Sometimes, I just need a vaulted crystal cavern, with a yellow crystal on a pedestal, and it's so much faster to generate the pieces, put them together like a collage, and then smooth it out in the style algorithm I wanted in the first place.
Also, this makes me feel better about not stealing from artists, because I'm cutting and reassembling like I am making a collage.
It works for my purposes of making visuals for ttrpg campaigns.
I don't know about art for sale or for other purposes. It's a complicated topic, with many perspectives.
