Dealing with whiplash can feel overwhelming, but the right information is your best tool for a full recovery.
Whiplash is a neck sprain caused by your head suddenly snapping backward and forward—like a whip—which can injure the neck’s soft tissues. While most full recoveries happen within the first 3 months, roughly 20% to 50% of people may deal with long-term stiffness if the injury isn’t managed correctly.
Swipe through our latest guide to understand the physical and cognitive symptoms you shouldn’t ignore and how to take charge of your healing. ➡️
Signs & Symptoms to Watch For:
Physical: Neck pain, reduced range of motion, dizziness, blurry vision, or headaches starting at the base of the skull.
Cognitive: Difficulty concentrating, memory problems, irritability, or increased anxiety while driving.
The Empower Guide to Recovery:
✅ DO: Stay active with gentle neck movements, use heat/cold packs for pain, and start early rehab with a physiotherapist.
❌ DON’T: Use neck braces long-term (they can slow recovery), ignore persistent pain, or jump back into high-impact sports too soon.
When is it an emergency?
Please visit Emergency if you experience severe numbness, weakness, trouble walking, or loss of bladder/bowel control. For all other neck pain, see your doctor and visit a physiotherapist soon to guide your “fast but safe” healing journey.
