Every trip from the North to an Edmonton hospital is a journey, but this one is something special!

We're thrilled to cheer on Kira Young as she rides 1,600 km from Stanton Territorial Hospital in Yellowknife to Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton, raising awareness of the barriers northern families face when navigating childhood rheumatic disease far from home.

The NTHSSA would like to wish Kira Young the best as she begins a bike ride from Stanton Territorial Hospital to Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton this week.

Kira will embark on the 1,600-kilometre journey alongside her mom, NTHSSA physician Dr. Sarah Cook, with the goal of raising awareness and funds for families affected by rheumatic diseases. You can learn more about her journey and fundraiser at s2sride.ca.

📣 Spring Mini-Carnival - New Date! 📣

Here in Edmonton we had more than TWO MONTHS of rain in just three days, and with more in the forecast, our beautiful outdoor venue needs a chance to dry out before we gather.

We are moving our Northern Spring Carnival to Saturday, June 13, 11am–4pm. 🌿☀️ Same delicious food, entertainment, games, self-care, and time on the land.

The event is free and transportation is provided for medical travel patients and families. Northerners living in Edmonton are also welcome - just send us a message if you'd like to attend.

✨ Goba Care had an exciting weekend being awarded the 2026 Patient Experience Award from Health Quality Alberta ✨

So many thanks to Meghan Ipana and Denise Mac for writing meaningful testimonials about the importance of Goba Care. We heard from the judges about how much the personal stories touched them. We are also so thankful to Billie-Jo Fox-Onespot and her team at the Indigenous Support Line who encouraged us to apply.

Three other teams were also recognized with awards, and it was encouraging to see examples of putting people at the centre of care and making the health system a place where patients feel safe and supported.

Mahsi cho to our funders and supporters and to all our clients who keep inspiring us with their courage and strength. 💜
