What if monogamy isn't the only way to love?
Before everybody loses their minds... 😂 I'm not advocating for either side. I'm asking the question.
And to be VERY clear... I AM MONOGAMOUS. 😂
Now that we've gotten that out of the way...
Most of us were taught the same formula:
Meet one person. Fall in love. Become exclusive. Build a life together. Stay together forever. Even the cartoons teach us that when we are little.
And there are people who genuinely thrive in monogamy. Exclusivity makes them feel safe, connected and deeply bonded.
But there are also people who deeply love their partner and don't believe one human being should be expected to fulfill every need they have.
And I'm not just talking about s*x.
Emotional connection. Intellectual stimulation. Adventure. Hobbies. Entertainment. Travel. Social interests. Different experiences.
Your partner might fulfill 90% of what you want while simply not connecting with you in areas that are still important.
Does that missing 10% mean you chose the wrong person?
Or is it unrealistic to expect ONE person to be our lover, best friend, adventure partner, intellectual match, emotional support system, s*xual match AND share virtually every interest for the rest of our lives?
This is where consensual non-monogamy becomes interesting.
Cheating and non-monogamy are NOT the same thing.
Cheating involves deception.
Consensual non-monogamy involves agreement.
A monogamous relationship can be unhealthy and dishonest. A non-monogamous relationship can be incredibly honest and secure. And obviously, the reverse can also be true.
The relationship structure doesn't determine whether it's healthy.
The PEOPLE do.
What matters is honesty and compatibility.
If you want monogamy, own it.
If you don't, own that too.
Don't convince someone to want what you want. Find someone whose wants genuinely align with yours.
So here's the question...
Are humans naturally monogamous?
Or is monogamy simply the relationship structure most of us were taught?
