Sometimes leaving Canada is not the end of the story.

We recently had a client whose work permit extension was refused because the LMIA wasn’t approved in time. He received a refusal and had to leave Canada.

It was disappointing, but he followed the rules, left when he was supposed to, and later reapplied properly from outside Canada.

Recent Express Entry draws continue to show one clear trend: French language proficiency has been a major priority lately.

French category: 4,500 ITAs issued with CRS scores as low as 409
CEC: only 3,000 ITAs with scores climbing back up to 518
PNP: 334

The gap is huge. Candidates with French continue to benefit from significantly lower CRS requirements and larger draws compared to other categories.

Language proof might show as "optional" — but STILL be required for your program.

And proof of eligible field of study won't even appear on the checklist at all. You HAVE to upload it yourself.

Here’s what’s changed:

Edit your WEOI — no need to cancel and start over

WEOIs are valid for one year from the original submission date, editing does not extend this.

Reject stream invitations — not interested in a particular stream? You can now decline and return to the WEOI pool before the 15-day invitation period ends

Refund available — if you paid the WEOI fee between April 7 and May 26, 2026 and cancelled your WEOI to make edits, you may be eligible for a refund of your original fee. Apply through the Opportunity Alberta contact form.

Not eligible for a refund:
• Candidates who cancelled and submitted a new WEOI during an invitation period
• Candidates who cancelled to update their Express Entry profile
