Mold in a basement doesn’t always mean the foundation is leaking.

We opened up this wall to see what was going on behind the drywall.

What we found was interesting:

* Foundation was dry
* Insulation was dry
* Most of the visible mold was on the room side of the poly

One thing that stood out right away was that the drywall had been installed directly down to the concrete floor.

Drywall is porous, so when it sits directly on concrete, it can absorb moisture from the slab. Add in humidity, condensation, colder temperatures at the base of the wall, or limited airflow, and you can end up with mold growth even without an active foundation leak.

This is why investigating the actual source matters.

Don’t assume.
