To all our customers and friends. Please share. This same scam has been circulating on Facebook Marketplace for the past year or longer. As the saying goes if it's too good to be true it probably isn't!!
Marketplace is full of trolls looking for their next best scam.
Last year the Ad for a Free Grand Piano seemed to be circulating. Always the same story. Giving away for a deceased family member, using different names and pictures but story is always similar in nature. The catch is you will need to pay the transport costs.
I'm not sure how many innocent people have fell for this but it's heart breaking.
Last year we had at least 4 individuals reach out with such excitement that they were going to be gifted the piano. After having to relay to each person it was a scam they were just thankful they had reached out for extra advice.
Unfortunately, this past weekend one of our long time customers reached out too late. She had paid the transport fees $1990.00. If you hadn't known the past history of this scam it did seem legit.
They used a website with close similarities to a reputable Transport Company and even went as far as having a Live Chat Agent. The Live Chat agent instructed our customer to forward the $1990.00 Transport Fees to a link oddly again very similar to the reputable companies email. Unfortunately that link was for a Moneygram location in Tisdale Sk, and money gone!
As our customer said "lesson learned"
If we can all just share this and if we see this Ad on Marketplace please let's call these scammers out.
A Police report has been made.
