AlbertaSat

AlbertaSat Designing, building, and dreaming up new cubesats at for space science and education! So your curious mind has led you to delve deep into our page?

You shall not be disappointed. You wanted to know more about us, no? Well long story short, AlbertaSat began as a student group when we participated in the first Canadian Satellite Design Challenge (CSDC) in 2010. Because of our amazing skills and fabulous looks, the project generated considerable interest in the engineering of spacecraft at the University of Alberta. Today, AlbertaSat is now a fu

lly matured student group with nearly 30 student members (undergraduate to graduate) from a diverse range of fields. And by this we mean studies. Most of us did not grow up prowling fields. Currently, Ex-Alta 2 is in its planning stages and Ex-Alta 1 is zooming around in Earth's orbit as part of the international project QB50. Our first CubeSatellite was launched with 49 others in April 2017 from the International Space Station. You will also be awe-struck to learn that we are working on a Open Source CubeSat Platform. Just cause. With more projects planned in the near future, we aim to promote Alberta's space industry while educating the public about space, engineering, and satellite design through our Educational Outreach Program. Come check us out sometime or let us know if you want us to provide a lesson to a class! We love spreading our passions. If you doubt this claim, notice our shiny awards. We assure you our sincerity and stellar attitude. You probably already know that AlbertaSat participated in the CSDC and the Mission Idea Contest (MIC), claiming an award in environmental design from International Academy of Astronautics (IAA). We are experienced. It's legit. In case you were doubting how cool we are, Ex-Alta 1 is the first made-in-Alberta CubeSatellite and a fantastic example of the capability of Albertans on the world aerospace stage. Quite simply, space represents the next stage of human development of which we have barely scratched the surface. This age of space and technology represents economic, philosophical, cultural, and intellectual expansion on a global scale. Ex-Alta 1 will be the platform (and most gorgeous satellite) to help carry Alberta into such an amazing age.

Next summer, AlbertaSat is launching its newest satellite, Ex-Alta 3, and we want to bring you along for the ride. With at least a $100 donation, you can etch your name onto a silicon chip that will be launched into space aboard our CubeSat.

So, how does your name make it to orbit? Eligible donor names will be carefully etched onto a silicon chip at the University of Alberta’s nanoFAB facility, and the chip will be attached to the satellite before launch. Once in space, Ex-Alta 3 will orbit Earth, and contribute to crucial climate change research on snow, ice, and wildfire impact in Canada, through its multispectral imager Iris.

đź’« $100 = 1 name. $200 = 3 names.

Help us fund this mission and inspire the next generation of space scientists.
