If youāve been wondering where the Baywood Portuguese Water Dogs puppies have been lately, thereās a very simple answer: Mother Nature is still the ultimate decision-maker.
The reality of responsible breeding is that puppies arenāt like Amazon Prime. We canāt simply order them up when we want!
Over the past few years, weāve had a few singleton litters, small litters and, more recently, some litters that simply didnāt take. As breeders, we can plan, prepare, do our health testing, choose our pairings carefully and give our dogs the very best care possible, but there are some things we just canāt control.
After 37 years of breeding Portuguese Water Dogs, weāve learned that the most important thing we can control is making decisions that are in the best interests of our dogs. Sometimes that means waiting. Sometimes it means changing plans. And sometimes it means accepting that nature has other ideas.
Weāre hopeful that our upcoming breedings will be more successful and, fingers crossed, bring us some big, healthy litters and happy, healthy mommas to share with some wonderful Baywood families.
So, to everyone who has been patiently waiting on our list: thank you. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding.
And to those who have reached out to inquire about puppies and have been told to try again later, weāre sorry we havenāt had better news to share. We know how exciting it is to hope for a puppy, and we appreciate everyone who continues to think of Baywood when they are looking for their next Portuguese Water Dog.
The very good news is that, despite the occasional breeding disappointment, weāre still having a whole lot of fun. Our dogs are happy, weāve had a wonderful summer and weāre enjoying every minute with our Baywood crew.
Because at the end of the day, thatās what itās all about.
