If you’re new to owning a hot tub, you’ve probably heard about balancing chemicals—but one factor that often gets overlooked is calcium hardness. Here’s why it’s so important and easy to manage:

🔍 What is Calcium Hardness?

Calcium hardness measures the amount of calcium in your hot tub water. It needs to stay within the ideal range (150-250 ppm) to keep your water and equipment in top condition.

⚠️ What Happens If It’s Unbalanced?
• Too Low: Your water becomes “soft,” which can cause corrosion of metal parts like heaters and pumps, leading to expensive repairs.
• Too High: Your water becomes “hard,” resulting in scale buildup on jets, pipes, and surfaces, affecting performance and causing unsightly residue.

Hey Hot Tub Lovers! 🌟

If you’re using a chlorine system to keep your hot tub clean and safe, you might already know the importance of regular maintenance. But today, let’s dive a bit deeper into pH and Alkalinity—and why they’re crucial for a healthy and effective hot tub experience! 🧴💦

1. What’s the Big Deal with pH? 🤔

pH measures how acidic or alkaline your hot tub water is. A balanced pH level (7.2 to 7.8) is essential for chlorine to work properly.
If your pH is too low (acidic), it can cause skin irritation, corrosion of your hot tub’s equipment, and reduce the effectiveness of chlorine.
If the pH is too high (alkaline), chlorine becomes less effective, making it harder to sanitize your water, leading to bacteria and algae growth.

2. Alkalinity: The Buffer that Keeps Things in Balance 🧪

Total Alkalinity (TA) is the water's ability to resist changes in pH. The ideal range is 100-120 ppm (parts per million).
Proper alkalinity acts as a buffer, stabilizing your pH and preventing it from bouncing all over the place.
Without the right alkalinity levels, adjusting your pH can become a never-ending struggle!

3. Why It’s Crucial for Your Chlorine System 🧼

As you can see the landscaping and deck still need to be completed, but this client was so excited to their new hot tub they wanted it in as quick as possible to start enjoying it right away!!
