Coffee with the Chamber is our official close to Small Business Week 2026, presented by Servus Credit Union, and it’s one you won’t want to miss.

This month we’re adding something special: a Small Business Showcase, presented by Alberta Blue Cross. Enjoy the coffee connections you know and love, then browse the showcase to sample what’s new, discover local services, and meet the owners behind the storefronts and experiences that give our city its character. Put faces to the businesses you already love, and find a few new favourites along the way.

The celebration doesn’t stop there. After coffee, head over to The Banquet in Ice District, where the Edmonton Chamber is proud to sponsor Edmonton’s 15th Friday Afternoon Business Social.

Two weeks from today, Small Business Week is focusing in on the numbers. 📊

We’re kicking off the morning with The Business Behind Your Small Business, by Servus Credit Union. Moderated by Aaron Ekstrom, Servus Small Business Advisors will share what it really takes to build and scale a business, from when to borrow to how to plan for growth.

Then we’re handing the day over to Doane Grant Thornton for a meet and greet, sessions on finance fundamentals and turning business losses into better cash flow, and a networking mixer from 3:30 to 5:00 PM. If you don’t have a CFO down the hall, this is a rare chance to get practical advice from people who do this every day.

Tickets start at just $10, and the mixer is free for Edmonton Chamber members.

Your competitors are learning how to win government contracts and access funding, but it’s not too late for you to learn too.

On Wednesday, October 21, Government & Defence Day at will show you how to get a foot in the door on federal procurement. The morning starts with how Canada’s defence agencies actually buy, and how to access scientific research and experimental development funding. Over lunch, you can meet City Council and City administration at our Municipal Government Mixer, presented by Rogers Business.

Then Edmonton Chamber President and CEO Doug Griffiths sits down with Andrea Oh, CEO of Savvy Knowledge. Andrea built a Calgary tech company and broke into the defence supply chain without any playbook. She’ll share how she did it, who helped open doors for her, and what she’d do differently. If you’ve ever wondered whether your business could sell to government, you’ll want to be in the room for this one.

Tomorrow, September 30, is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce office will be closed to honour the day.

It is a day to honour the children who never came home from residential schools, and the Survivors, families, and communities who carry that legacy. It is also a day to reckon with the institutions and systems that made residential schools possible, and the work still needed to address their harms.

Reconciliation starts with truth. If you’re looking for ways to learn, here are a few happening in Edmonton tomorrow:
🧡 Fort Edmonton Park: Opening ceremony at 9:30 AM, with ticketed programming from 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM
🧡 Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society: Storytelling, crafts, keynotes, and entertainment from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM
🧡 Art Gallery of Alberta: A curator-led tour of What Shapes Us and a conversation in The Reciprocity Garden, 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM
🧡 Métis Community Cultural Centre: Petohté Niikinahk: Coming Home, a mural viewing and film screening from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

We encourage Edmonton’s business community to make space for this day. Give your team time to attend, start a conversation at work, or commit to one of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, including 92, which calls on businesses to build meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities, ensure equitable access to jobs and training, and educate their staff on this history.
