During these uncertain times for job prospects in Oil and Gas industry to make yourself more employable Canadians should consider abandoning Second Line Well Control and Well Service BOP certification in lieu of International Well Control Certification, which allows to Supervise Operations any where in the World along with supervising the rigs working in Western Canada,
Well Control Group has been providing the IWCF and IADC certification since 2008. We are quite aware of the fact that with only a handful of rigs working in Western Canada it is quite difficult to get a placement. The Second Line and Well Servicing BOP certification is only recognized in western Canada. It is not even recognized on the East Coast of Canada.
The International Certification of Well Control became a equivalent Standard to Second Line and Well Service BOP certification in Western Canada by AER, BC OIl and Gas Commission Saskatchewan Energy and Mines in 2018.
Well Control Group lobbied for 10 years to get this done to help fellow workers to be more employable worldwide and not just dependent on working in Western Canada.
The IADC and IWCF certification courses are a higher standard and have tougher exams and are slightly pricier. With the international certification it is not a very high price to pay to be employable worldwide.
The International Well Service tickets address Coil Tubing, Wireline and Snubbing addon to the basic Well Service Well Control. The local Well Service BOP only offers the Coil Tubing addon.
The field staff trained to a higher standard and being able to address the routine Wireline and Snubbing intervention techniques is way more valuable than the supervisor who has to rely on the expertise of the wireline or snubbing supervisor.

At present time with the low rig count in Western Canada, Alberta works might be able to grant you the money for training.
