We are proud to have Shivali Sharma, co-founder of HERizon Rx, as the moderator for our Edmonton event.

Shivali is a pharmacist, pharmacy owner, and nationally recognized advocate for the profession. She is a trusted media spokesperson who has represented pharmacy across Global News, CTV, CBC, and major print and digital platforms. She has also worked alongside provincial leaders to support public health messaging and pharmacy scope advancement. Shivali serves as an elected Board Member of the Alberta Pharmacists' Association’ and as a University of Alberta Alumni Council Representative.

Through HERizon Rx, Shivali has helped create spaces where women in pharmacy can come together to reflect, learn, and explore new possibilities for leadership and entrepreneurship.

One insight Shivali shared at our previous HERizon Rx event in Ottawa captured this beautifully:

Women’s health has historically been under-researched, under-funded, and under-prioritized.

At the same time, women are often the primary healthcare decision-makers for themselves, their families, and their communities.

Pharmacists are uniquely positioned to help close this gap. Across Canada, women pharmacists are building services, practices, and businesses that center women’s health in evidence-based and deeply human ways.

This is why our Edmonton HERizon Rx event includes a dedicated focus on women’s health. Not as a niche interest, but as a critical area of care, leadership, and innovation within pharmacy.

Meet one of our Edmonton panelists, Linda Nghiem. 👏

Linda is a community pharmacist and pharmacy owner based in north-west Edmonton. Since graduating from the University of Alberta in 2011, she has built a practice grounded in advanced clinical care, lifelong learning, and entrepreneurship.

In 2017, Linda and her husband acquired Palisades Pharmacy and grew it into a thriving, patient-centred independent pharmacy. Her practice includes advanced non-sterile compounding services, diabetes education, prescribing authority, and cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia.

In 2023, Linda became a The Menopause Society Certified Practitioner and now provides dedicated menopause consultation services, supporting women through evidence-based, pharmacist-led care.

Linda’s story reflects what is possible when pharmacists combine clinical expertise with vision and courage. We are excited to have her share her journey, lessons learned, and perspective on women’s health and pharmacy ownership.

Kim is a pharmacist, entrepreneur, and owner of Bearspaw Pharmacy in Edmonton, with over 20 years of experience in community pharmacy. She holds Additional Prescribing Authority, is certified in travel health, and is a The Menopause Society Certified Practitioner.

Kim is a passionate advocate for independent community pharmacy and believes deeply in care built on trusted relationships rather than transactions. Her practice is rooted in personalized, evidence-based care, with a strong focus on women’s health, menopause care, and prevention.

We are honoured to welcome Dr. Nese Yuksel as our featured speaker at HERizon Rx Edmonton.

Dr. Yuksel is a nationally recognized leader in women’s health, with nearly 25 years of clinical and academic experience focused on menopause, reproductive health, and osteoporosis. She is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Alberta Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, where she spent over two decades shaping pharmacy education and leadership.

Beyond academia, Dr. Yuksel is a co-founder of Effica Health, a company dedicated to improving access and quality of care in women’s health. She is also the Past President of the Canadian Menopause Society and serves on the Scientific Advisory Council of Osteoporosis Canada.

What makes Dr. Yuksel’s voice so powerful is the intersection she brings to the conversation: clinician, educator, researcher, and innovator. Her work continues to shape how women experience care and how healthcare professionals approach women’s health across Canada.
