IRCC is still accepting applications under the public policy "PR Pathway – Workers in Canada: essential, NON-healthcare".
If you work in one of the listed occupations, you may have a chance to become one of the 30,000 essential workers to get PR through this new policy.

To be eligible, you must:
• be in Canada
• have valid status in Canada
• plan to live outside of Quebec
• meet language requirements - CLB 4
• be currently employed
• have 1 year of work experience (at least 1,560 hours) in the past 3 years. Unlike your current employment, which can be in any job, your experience needs to be in one or more eligible occupations.
• not be a refugee claimant in Canada.

The essential workers pathway is open until November 5, 2021, or until IRCC reached the maximum number of applications for this stream.

Canada aims to welcome at least 401,000 immigrants in 2021. On May 12, 2021, the immigration minister released investments to support Canada's economic recovery and to modernize the immigration system in budget 2021.

Key measures to support immigration include:
• Improve the digital infrastructure to create a secure, stable, and flexible enterprise-wide digital platform to process applications more quickly.
• Enhance the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, which ensures temporary foreign workers have appropriate working conditions and wages.
• Support and extend the Racialized Newcomer Women Pilot initiative, which will continue to improve their employment outcomes and career advancement.
• Speed up pathways to permanent residence by upgrading and simplifying the Express Entry system.
• Enhance capacity and service standards within the IRCC's Client Support Centre — ensuring timely support by phone and email for inquiries related to the suite of services offered by the department, particularly PR applications.

The planned investments in budget 2021 will build an immigration system that is more client-focused, optimized, and aimed at making it simpler for talented individuals to establish themselves in Canada.
