OP was truckin' by the shop so I ran out to catch him passing by. He's hauling out of the Matheson Yard on this sunny day! β˜€οΈ

We recently asked about your favourite machines and a few of our followers shared their memories of the skidder. Here are a few pictures of the skidders that W. Lafrance Logging owned back in the day. A set of Timberjack 560 twins and a Timberjack 848. We currently no longer have skidders.

During operations in the past, the feller buncher would harvest the tree and the skidder would bring the logs roadside for the delimber (removes branches from felled trees) and slasher (cuts the logs to a specific length).

Now, operations look slightly different. The feller buncher cuts down the tree, the processor delimbs and cuts the logs to length, and the forwarder brings them roadside. We also have a harvester that can fell, delimb, and cut the logs, combining the jobs of the feller buncher and processor. However, depending on the size, not all harvesters can handle as large as trees as a feller buncher.

The logging operation we use is referred to as the cut-to-length method, where trees are processed in the forest. An advantage to this method is that it’s more environmentally friendly. Branches, leaves and needles are left in the forest, which returns nutrients to the soil and promotes growth for trees left behind and regeneration.

It's been a while since our last post! While it's been slowing down in the bush due to spring break up, it's been busier around the shop.

This morning supervisors Brydon Burrows and Mark Vallee are servicing the fire trailers with the help from Jackson Twarowski.

Welcome back to Jackson who is joining us again. Jackson completed a co-op placement with us while he was in high school and just completed his first year in the Forestry Technician program at Fleming College. Happy to have you back, Jackson!
