Grateful for the opportunity to speak at the UIDDS Annual Conference yesterday.

Presenting on service excellence in such a beautiful setting made the experience even more special. Crown Isle Resort & Golf Community was an incredible venue, and Comox truly is a stunning community.

What stood out most wasn’t just the scenery—it was the energy in the room. A group of professionals committed to elevating the patient experience, challenging the status quo, and striving for something more intentional in the way we care for people.

Every dental practice hits this point. The work feels hard. The days feel full. And there’s this quiet belief in the background: “At some point… this should get easier.” But here’s the truth most people don’t talk about: It doesn’t necessarily get easier. It gets more effective.

We recently had this conversation in a live session while talking about KPIs and the behaviors that drive results. The systems. The follow-ups. The conversations. The accountability. Those things don’t magically become effortless. You still have to: Have the conversation. Review the numbers. Follow up again. Reinforce expectations. That part? It can still feel hard.

But something does change. The results. When you stay consistent with the right behaviors: Case acceptance improves. Schedules get stronger. Teams become more aligned. Patients say yes more often. Not because it got easier… but because you got consistent.

It’s the same everywhere in life. Working out doesn’t suddenly become effortless. Eating well still takes intention. Showing up as a great parent or partner still requires energy. But over time, the return compounds.

In practices, we often chase “easy.” But the real opportunity is this: Trade easy for predictable. Because when your behaviors are consistent, your results stop being random. And that’s where real growth happens.

If you’re feeling like things are still putting in effort… good. It means you’re likely doing the right things. Now the question becomes: Are you doing them consistently enough to see the return?

Today I had the privilege of working with an incredible team in Edmonton . Our focus? Communication — specifically, how to have clear and meaningful conversations with patients about occlusion.

What stood out most was the energy in the room: engaged faces, thoughtful feedback, and truly great questions. It reminded me how much impact a committed team can have when they lean into learning together.
