Not all internet service provider plans are created equal. ๐Ÿ‘€

When comparing internet packages, itโ€™s important to look beyond just the advertised speed.

Here are a few things that can make a BIG difference:

โœ… Data limits or throttling policies
โœ… Upload speeds for video calls & working from home
โœ… Network congestion during peak hours
โœ… Local customer support vs. large call centers
โœ… Reliability during bad weather
โœ… Contract terms and hidden fees
โœ… How many people/devices your household uses

A โ€œfastโ€ plan on paper doesnโ€™t always mean a better online experience.

Before switching providers or upgrading your service, ask questions and compare the details โ€” not just the price tag.

Reliable internet is about consistency, support, and performance when you need it most. ๐Ÿ’ป๐Ÿ“บ๐ŸŽฎ

Why Internet Speed Matters ๐ŸŒ

Ever wonder what those internet speed numbers really mean? Hereโ€™s a simple breakdown you can share with your customers and community!

๐Ÿ“ถ What is Internet Speed?

Internet speed is how fast information travels between your home and the internet. Itโ€™s usually measured in Mbps (Megabits per second).

โฌ‡๏ธ Download Speed

This is how fast you can:

Watch Netflix or YouTube
Browse websites
Download games or files
Scroll social media
โฌ†๏ธ Upload Speed

This matters for:

Zoom or Teams meetings
Uploading photos/videos
Online gaming
Working from home
Security cameras & cloud backups
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ Why Speeds Feel Slower Sometimes

Even with good internet, speeds can change depending on:

How many devices are connected
Streaming in 4K
Large game downloads
Wi-Fi signal strength
Peak evening usage times
๐Ÿ’ก Speed Guide
10โ€“25 Mbps โ†’ Basic browsing & email
50โ€“100 Mbps โ†’ Streaming & multiple devices
100+ Mbps โ†’ Busy households, gaming & working from home
๐Ÿก Tip:

Sometimes the issue isnโ€™t your internet package โ€” it can be older Wi-Fi equipment or where your router is located!

Good internet isnโ€™t just about speed โ€” itโ€™s about reliability too. ๐Ÿ‘

Fibers Mostly Repaired...
Hello All Rural Net Clients,
Bell Canada had a serious network issue earlier today. They had a major fiber cut near Port Credit, Mississauga. They have fixed it partially and service is slowly returning to normal. I expect it will be fully repaired by morning. Another Mississauga ISP posted: "The damaged fibre cable has been successfully located in Port Credit. The damage is believed to be related to construction activity in the area. Contractors have assisted in exposing the cable to determine the full extent of the damage. Fibre and relief crews will continue working through the night to restore services as quickly as possible." It was nice that the excavator that broke the line helped in repairing it. Again a reminder to "Call before you dig!" The contractor will likely be presented with a $100K+ repair bill. Many 100 Gbps fiber circuits were severed. Parts of Mississauga had no internet for many hours. (Bell and Bell reseller services.)

Assuming no unexpected changes overnight, I will call this one fixed for now. Thanks for your patience. We are 100% reliant on the fiber lines we lease to bring service to our towers. When someone uses a backhoe to adjust the network, we are all at the mercy of the teams out repairing the damage. I have thought of how to make the network more independent/redundant but there is no solution that I am aware of. There just is no other lines or services available in our area.

We at Rural Net wish to again thank everyone for their continuing support of us, by choosing Rural Net as their internet provider. Please do not hesitate to text or email me if you are having any service related issues. We try to fix everything as soon as we know about it. Day or night.

Please Be Kind. Please Be Thoughtful. Giving a kind word or gesture costs nothing and can greatly improve someone's day. Take care and stay healthy.

Sincerely,
Team Rural Net

UPDATE: It is an issue at Bell. Our team has been on the phone with our supplier trying to figure out the issue. Speeds have improved. Not completely back to normal yet.

There is an issue with some of our fibres that we are aware of. Trying to get an update from our supplier.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
