☀️ Happy Father’s Day! Today we’re celebrating one of Canada’s most impressive snakes. The Gray Ratsnake! During breeding season, male Gray Ratsnakes may wrestle when competing for the same female. Despite looking dramatic, these matches are more about strength, balance, and determination. Similar behaviour has also been observed in male Massasauga Rattlesnakes.
Think of it as the reptile version of a championship wrestling match—no cages, no referees, just two snakes trying to prove who’s the strongest contender! 🏆🐍

💙 It’s Global Wind Day! Did you know that wind generation in Alberta rose 16.5% to 14.9 million Megawatt- hours replacing Ontario as Canada‘s largest wind generator in 2025.

Even though that this is an impressive feat it is important to know the concerns that windmills possess for wildlife in Canada.
Pros
✅ Does not omit greenhouse gases
✅ Economical in the long term
Cons
❌ Poses a threat to bat and bird populations if built in rural areas
❌ Noise pollution

Blanding’s Turtles, with their bright yellow throats and iconic “smiley faces,” are one of Ontario’s most recognizable species “at risk”. But they’re facing tough challenges—habitat loss, road accidents, and illegal collection—threatening their survival.

You can make a difference!
Join the Blanding’s Turtle Watch program and report your sightings. Whether you spot one basking on a log, crossing a road, or nesting in the spring, your observation helps researchers track populations, protect habitats, and support recovery efforts.

🔹 Report sightings, photos, and location details via our form or My Field App.
🔹 Every record counts—even uncertain ones!
🔹 All turtle species are important; help protect them all.

What to look for:
✔ Basking turtles on logs or rocks
✔ Turtles crossing roads (especially spring/early summer)
✔ Nesting females in May–June
✔ Hatchlings, nests, or tracks
