This past Sunday we had the pleasure of releasing baby snapping and painted turtles with niagaraturtles !! 🐢

Turtle eggs were rescued from an at risk site, safely hatched, and the hatchlings were released in a safer location to boost their survival chances and support the conservation of these native species 🥚

We made sure to choose the best spots for these little ones with plenty of food and cover to give them the best start in life! 🌱

A huge thank you to our volunteers, staff, local biologists, and community partners for making this possible! 🌷

🌟 BIG NEWS: We are excited to announce that Anne Yagi, our President, had the incredible opportunity to be part of RATTLED—a powerful documentary by Work Cabin Films that follows a new generation of Massasauga Rattlesnakes as they are released into the wild. This is a story of hope, conservation, and the fight to protect a species “at risk”.

This past Sunday, we came together for something truly special—a Turtle Release Event in partnership with Niagara Turtles! 🌿💚
We were honored to witness the release of snapping turtle & painted turtle hatchlings, a milestone in the region’s first-ever turtle-focused recovery initiative. These little ones were given a second chance at life, thanks to the incredible work of Niagara Turtles, who rescued and incubated their eggs from rescued nests.
A heartfelt thank you to the First Nations community for gracing us with their presence and sharing a traditional drumming ceremony, adding a sacred and meaningful touch to the event. 🥁🌎
We’re also deeply grateful to the Greater Niagara Boating Club and Niagara Turtles for their support, collaboration, and dedication to protecting our local wildlife. Together, we’re making a difference—one turtle at a time. 💙

That’s a wrap on our Make up World Snake Day event! 🐍✨
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us—your support and curiosity made the day truly special! The Kids Craft Corner was a huge success, especially our DIY bookmarks! It was incredible to see so many people eager to learn about Ontario’s incredible snakes!
Snakes often get a bad reputation but they play a vital role in our ecosystems. As predators, they help control rodent populations, maintain biodiversity, and many snakes in Ontario, like the Blue Racer and the Eastern Foxsnake are harmless and misunderstood. Misconceptions about snakes often lead to fear, but education and awareness can change that!
A special thank you to Safari Niagara for hosting us and making this event possible. We’re so grateful for their support in spreading knowledge and appreciation for these amazing creatures!
