🚨 When Is It an Emergency?

Not every generator alert requires emergency service—but some situations do.

Here is a quick guide on what your generator is trying to tell you and ways to help determine your next step:

🔴 You have utility power, but your generator has a red light.
Your home is still receiving power from the utility. While the generator should be inspected, this is generally not an after-hours emergency. Please contact our office during regular business hours to schedule service.

🔴 Your utility power is OUT and your generator is not running. Your home is without backup power. This is considered an emergency. Please contact our office during business hours, or our emergency on-call technician after hours for assistance.

🟡 Yellow or Half Yellow/Half Green Light?
This is simply a maintenance reminder indicating your generator is due for its annual service. It does not indicate a generator fault. If you are on an existing maintenance plan our office will schedule your service accordingly. If you are not on an existing plan, contact our office to schedule.

🟢 Green Light - Your generator is ready to run for when you need it!

If you're ever unsure what your generator is telling you, don't hesitate to give us a call. We're always happy to help you determine the next steps.

⚡ Generator Education Week – Part #5 🔧 Service and Long-Term Support

Installing a generator is only the beginning. A standby power system is a long-term investment. Before making a purchasing decision, ensure the company can meet and exceed industry standards for:

✔ Preventative maintenance
✔ Emergency service when needed
✔ Warranty Service
✔ Technical Support

Look for companies with:

✔ Years of proven experience
✔ Qualified and experienced technicians
✔ Fully stocked service vehicles designed to minimize return visits
✔ Ongoing manufacturer training and certification updates
✔Companies that specialize in Standby Power Systems as their primary business focus. Not a secondary or subsidiary business.

The quality of service after installation is just as important as the installation itself. A dependable service provider helps ensure your standby power system remains reliable and ready for when you need it the most.

We are frequently contacted by homeowners whose standby power systems were installed by other companies. Common questions we hear include:

❓ "Why didn't they tell me this?"
❓ "How can they sell something they seem to know nothing about?"

Before making your decision, do your research.
✔ Is the company consistently rated highly on Google and other review platforms?
✔ Are they recognized by the manufacturers they represent?
✔ Do they have a proven track record of customer satisfaction?

Just because a company is listed as the largest business in the country, doesn’t mean that they are the better installer. It just means they have larger warehouses.

Experience, expertise, and long-term support are what truly matter when choosing a standby power provider.

⚡ Generator Education Week – Part #4 ⚠️ Be Cautious of Unrealistic Discounts

If one company is offering pricing that is significantly lower than a comparable quotation, it is worth asking why.

A properly installed standby power system involves far more than the generator itself. Labour, permits, materials, commissioning, and installation are only part of the overall project cost. Companies must also invest in insurance, training, inventory, service vehicles, office staff, warranty support, and ongoing customer service to properly support customers long after the installation is complete.

If a contractor is offering to "take" $1,500 off a competing comparable quotation, homeowners should carefully evaluate what may be missing from the proposal.

Questions worth asking include:

✔ Are permits included?
✔ Is all labour included?
✔ Are all required materials included?
✔ Who will perform the installation?
✔ What level of warranty and service support is provided after installation?
✔ Will the company be there to support the system years from now?

The difference may not be in the generator itself—it may be in the materials, labour, workmanship quality, service support, and long-term stability of the company standing behind the installation.

When comparing quotations, remember that value extends beyond the initial purchase price. In the standby power industry, you often get what you pay for.
