Latest draw details:

• Draw Date: September 1, 2026
• Draw Type: Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
• Invitations to Apply (ITAs): 2,000
• Minimum CRS Score: 521
• Rank Needed: 2,000 or above
• Tie-breaking Rule: August 18, 2026, at 3:24:13 a.m. UTC

If more than one candidate had the lowest CRS score, IRCC used the tie-breaking rule based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles.

Canadian Experience Class draws generally invite eligible candidates with qualifying Canadian work experience already in the Express Entry pool.

A Provincial Nominee Program invitation can contribute 600 additional CRS points to an Express Entry profile. However, receiving an invitation does not guarantee permanent residence. Canada Extends Grace Period for Certain TFWP Work Permit Applications

Canada has extended the concurrent processing period for certain Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) work permit applications submitted from inside Canada while an employer’s Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is still being processed.

Effective August 21, 2026, the period has been extended from 60 days to 90 days.

This means eligible applicants may have up to 90 days after submitting their work permit application to provide proof of a positive or neutral LMIA.

Concurrent processing may apply when:
• The applicant’s current work permit expires in two weeks or less
• The employer has submitted a complete LMIA application
• The LMIA decision has not yet been made
• The LMIA application was submitted with enough lead time for a decision to reasonably have been expected

During this period, the work permit application can be placed on hold while the applicant provides the required LMIA documentation.

For eligible workers applying from inside Canada before their current work permit expires, maintained status may allow them to continue working under the conditions of their existing permit while the application is being processed, provided the applicable requirements are met.

This extension does not guarantee work permit approval. Requirements apply, and individual circumstances vary.

Alberta conducted 7 AAIP selections from August 4 to August 19, 2026, issuing a total of 1,134 invitations across different streams and pathways.

Here’s the August breakdown:

• Alberta Opportunity Stream: 743 invitations | Minimum score: 58
• Rural Renewal Stream: 127 invitations | Minimum score: 51
• Accelerated Tech Pathway: 95 invitations | Minimum score: 60
• Dedicated Health Care Pathway, Express Entry: 57 invitations | Minimum score: 60
• Priority Sectors, Health Care: 50 invitations | Minimum score: 66
• Priority Sectors, Agriculture: 38 invitations | Minimum score: 55
• Dedicated Health Care Pathway, non-Express Entry: 24 invitations | Minimum score: 60

An important reminder from AAIP: EOI score is not the only factor used to select candidates for invitations. AAIP considers various factors in Worker EOIs to meet program priorities.

AAIP draws are not regularly scheduled and are conducted as needed to address sector needs and provincial priorities.

ONTARIO INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: UHIP FEES TO INCREASE

International students at UHIP member universities in Ontario will see a higher mandatory health insurance cost starting September 1, 2026.

The annual UHIP premium for an individual will increase from $792 to $948, an increase of $156.

For a family of three, the annual premium will increase from $2,376 to $2,844, or $468 more.

UHIP coverage is generally required for international students at participating Ontario universities, unless they qualify for an approved exemption.

These exemptions may include having eligible OHIP coverage, another pre-approved health plan, diplomatic status, or a government-sponsored plan.

UHIP is designed to cover certain medically necessary services, including physician visits, diagnostic tests, emergency room visits, and hospital surgeries, with coverage of up to $1 million per policy year. UHIP is not the same as OHIP.

International students should also be aware that their university may have a separate extended health plan covering services such as prescription drugs, dental care, and vision.

IEC 2026 UPDATE

As of August 21, 2026, IRCC has issued 88,083 invitations under International Experience Canada (IEC), compared with an overall quota of 61,199.

An invitation does not automatically result in an approved work permit. According to the latest update, 5,240 spots remain.

Since the previous update on August 14, only 773 invitations were issued.

CANADIAN CITIZENSHIP CERTIFICATE WAIT HITS 25 MONTHS

Canada is seeing a significant increase in processing times for citizenship certificate applications.

The reported wait has reached 25 months, while the backlog has surpassed 121,000 applications.

A citizenship certificate is official proof of Canadian citizenship. It may be needed by people who are already Canadian citizens but require documentation confirming their citizenship, including certain individuals claiming citizenship by descent.

The increase comes amid higher demand following changes to Canada's citizenship-by-descent rules.
