This is something I feel so passionate about & will always scream from the roof tops! Sleep training is NOT selfish! Sleep is not a luxury. It is a NECESSITY. You need it just as badly as you need water and food. It is fatal to go without sleep, so it's not surprising that POOR sleep also comes with its own fair share of health disrupts!

BOTH you & your baby stand to benefit from consolidated sleep.

** There have been NO studies that show sleep training harms your baby or disrupts your bond. HOWEVER, there is real scientific evidence that poor sleep can cause harm to your growing child emotionally, mentally, & physically.

Quality sleep equals health! 🩷
You are not selfish for wanting proper sleep for YOU and your baby. 🫶🏻

As your baby gets older, they are able to stay awake for longer stretches between sleeps. A simple Google search will generate an ideal schedule based on your child's age, but what about when your child gets older & they fall into a new wake window standard?

Do you increase to the new wake window standard all at once, or do you increase wake time gradually until you reach the new wake window length?

This really depends on your child & their personality! In my experience, babies are usually ready for a lengthier wake window before we realize it. It can often feel like we are "forcing" baby to stay awake when we are adjusting to a new sleep schedule. However. If we maintain the shorter wake windows, it almost always results in a short nap. For babies who seem to really struggle to stay awake beyond the time suggested in their currebt schedule (even though they have aged out of that age), I recommend increasing wake time by 5 minutes every few days until you reach the new wake length.

If your baby is more relaxed & you have been experiencing those short naps, you can increase to the wake window all at once!

If you need help figuring out a new schedule or calculating what your babies wake windows should be, my DM's are always open! 🤗

When it comes to your toddler/pre-schooler's sleep, allowing them to make certain choices around bedtime can be very beneficial. Not only does it allow them to have some control over what's happening to them, but it also enables them to understand the consequences of their decisions.

While they may not be able to decide *when* bedtime is, it can be helpful to allow them to pick which pajamas they would like to wear, which books they would like to read, or which songs they would like to sing!

Generally, allowing small children some control over these choices empowers them to stick to the routine you're putting in place. Structure & routine are SO important for children EVEN THOUGH it is developmentally normal for them to challenge boundaries.

If you'd like to chat more about implementing sleep strategies & healthy boundaries surrounding your little one's sleep, please reach out! I'd love to help. 🫶🏻

When I work with families, sometimes I think one of the biggest teachings is really about adjusting the parent's standards when it comes to your baby's sleep! I kind of joke that I train parents more so than I sleep train parents.

If your child is falling asleep within 5 minutes of being put down, there is a good chance your child is actually exhausted. It's perfectly okay, & normal for your little one to take anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes to fall asleep!

If your child is taking longer than that, I still wouldn't necessarily worry - especially if they seem to be happy with relaxing in their beds before drifting off to sleep (I see this happen a lot at the 18 - 24 month mark as babe likely needs less day time sleep).

Remember, when considering your wake windows, 15 minutes to us is a small amount of time - but 15 minutes to a developing little babe is a decent amount of time! Sometimes all it takes is adjusting things by 10-15 minutes here & there to get more restful sleeps. 🥰

Swaddling is one of my favourite ways to help a newborn sleep better!

My second child absolutely loved his swaddle & I kept him in one until he was about 4 months old. Granted that is on the later end of the recommendation for swaddling!

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, we typically see babies begin to roll around 3-4 months. Once a baby can roll onto their tummy, it’s no longer safe for them to be swaddled because they need their hands free to push up to move their faces away from the mattress.

If you need support transitioning your little one away from the swaddle, I'd love to help! 🫶🏻❤️

When you book a package with me, I custom make a sleep plan according to your child's needs! In that sleep plan, there is an "ideal schedule" , this ideal schedule maps out when naps and sleeps should occur, and the desired length these sleeps should be!

However, sleep training is rarely linear & your baby is a human after all - not a robot! Sometimes sleep looks different day to day.

That is why it's most important to focus on the hours in which your child is awake rather than the "scheduled" time the next sleep should occur.

* Always follow wake windows, never push your child to the ideal schedule if the nap was not as long, or was longer, than is written in your sleep plan! *

Hi everyone! Just a heads up I will be out of the country from April 20th - 29th.
During this time I will not be able to book any new clients, or book any support calls past clients have remaining.

If you have questions before then, I'm still here until the 20th! 🩵

The truth is, it's never too late to sleep train. We can work together teaching your 16 week old to sleep, but I am also here to help you with your 10 year old who may rely on having the television on to sleep, or maybe they need a back rub to fall asleep, maybe they're waking up too early, and likely falling asleep too late. Whatever the case may be, we can get them sleeping without external props & ensure they're hitting their proper sleep amounts for their ages.

Know that there is no right or wrong time to sleep train - but if you have older children struggling to achieve healthy sleep, it is so beneficial for them to become better sleepers! Sleep training is *not* just for babies.

Reach out today if you relate to this! 🫶🏻
