Saw an interesting news article...

Moosomin is close to the same size as Fort Qu'Appelle, and they have attracted $52 million in construction projects.

Statistics Canada currently ranks Sask as the 3rd best in the country for growth in building construction investment.

It sounds like the economic environment is favourable to attract investment. Which is a major opportunity.

Questions for our leaders at Town of Fort Qu'Appelle :

How does Fort Qu'Appelle compare?

What are the construction permit values locally? This year and last year?

What work is being done to attract this kind of investment into our community?

UPDATE:

It appears current council is poised to go forward with the 2024 repaving project with the back alley still ranked as the #1 priority. Despite it being an unpopular choice amongst taxpayers.

Also these were the engineers comments about the alley:

"Due to the absence of a proper road structure in the back alley, the lane is susceptible to failure and a shortened life cycle."

Budget season is upon on us, and we are thankful to see around $600,000 has been set aside for road work this year.

Apparently, current council for Town of Fort Qu'Appelle believes the highest priority repaving project is the back alley behind their favorite coffee shop. 🤔

From our perspective, the situation around town currently is that there are many other locations, especially for businesses, that either have terrible roads or do not have paved roads at all. For example, Sioux Ave where Subway and other businesses are located is gravel and often floods, or the road to the ski hill is notoriously bad, or the entire east side of town is gravel.

On top of bad roads, some of the businesses don't have access to public water and sewer connections.

Our question to the public:

If you had $600,000 which roads would you fix in Fort Qu'Appelle?

--------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: In the original post we incorrectly mentioned that the "west side" of town is gravel. We meant the east side where Sarcan is. Thanks to Darlene Huber for pointing out our mistake.

REXENTRE UPDATE

We got a tip from the community showing that it looks like the Town is spending money on hired consultants to help them with the Rexentre.

Our top questions:

What is going in there?
How much is it going to cost tax payers?
How is it going to impact the quality of life in town?

‐-----------------
Something fishy is going on in Town with the way our beloved Rexentre is getting managed.

Local community leaders take note...

If we want to be a success story like Nokomis or Shaunavon.... Nobody will do it for us, WE have to step up and do the work. But these success stories are proof that it is worth the effort.

Read the story:

Many rural communities in Saskatchewan are battling outmigration and aging business communities. But two small towns in Saskatchewan are bootstrapping innovative thinking to buck that trend. Outmigration alongside aging infrastructure and business communities is challenging the vitality of many rura...

This is BIG NEWS for the Valley and we've been waiting a long time to be able to talk about this. Kudos to the team at All Nation's Healing Hospital for persevering through the challenges with the local bureaucracy to get this monumental project off the ground.

Expanded health care services, in this case an 8-unit primary care clinic, are welcome news for the long-term prospects of the local economy.

Fyi ... new minimum wage is effective today.

The minimum wage in Saskatchewan is set to increase by $1 on October 1, 2023, rising from $13 to $14 per hour. 📈

The rate was previously increased from $11.81 to $13 last October. This announcement is part of the province’s two-year plan to raise the rate to $15 by 2024.
