May is S*x Ed for All Month. πŸ’š

People with IDD have the same rights to sexual health education as everyone else.

The same right to understand their bodies. To learn about boundaries, consent, relationships, and personal health. To have access to the information their peers grew up with.

Many don't get that access. That gap has real consequences.

At Taproot, we believe every person deserves education that prepares them for life. All of it.

May 5 β€” Red Dress Day

Today we honour the missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and 2-Spirit people across Canada.

The red dress is a reminder of the lives lost, the families still waiting for answers, and the systemic failures that continue today. These are not just statistics, they are daughters, sisters, mothers, and friends.

On this day, we commit to listening to Indigenous communities, amplifying their voices, and demanding meaningful action, not just acknowledgement.

"No more stolen sisters."

Does this sound familiar?

You find yourself doing things for your child that you know they could do, but you're not sure how to teach them. Or you've tried, and it hasn't gone well.

That's exactly what Caregiver Coaching is for.

We help caregivers learn how to break skills down, build them up step by step, and create the kind of consistency that leads to real independence, whether that's getting dressed, brushing teeth, managing transitions, or navigating health and safety situations.

16 weeks. Evidence-based. Built around your family. πŸ’š

Mealtime in your house: stressful or smooth?

If dinner feels like a battle most nights β€” the refusals, the meltdowns, the same five safe foods on repeat β€” you're not imagining it, and you're not alone.

Taproot's Eating & Mealtime Support program was built for families exactly like yours. Here's what we help children work toward:

πŸ₯• Willingness to try new foods
πŸ₯• More variety in accepted foods
πŸ₯• Eating enough to support growth and development
πŸ₯• Calmer, less distressing mealtimes for everyone
πŸ₯• Reduced problem behaviour at the table

Our 16-week program includes assessment, 1-on-1 treatment sessions, and hands-on coaching for caregivers β€” because the strategies need to work at home, not just in session.

We work with children ages 2–12 (and beyond) with selective eating, ARFID, or mealtime behaviour challenges β€” with or without a formal diagnosis. Medical conditions are always ruled out before treatment begins.

What does 16 weeks of mealtime support actually look like? πŸ‘‡

βœ… An assessment β€” we get to know your child and your family's priorities before building any plan

βœ… Individualized treatment sessions 1–3x per week with an experienced professional

βœ… Caregiver coaching so the strategies don't stop when the session ends

βœ… Practical tools to make mealtime calmer and more successful at home

We support children ages 2–12 (and beyond) dealing with selective eating, ARFID, problem behaviour at mealtimes, or very limited food variety β€” with or without a formal diagnosis.

The goal isn't a perfect eater. It's a child (and a family) who can sit down to a meal without dread.

Your kid isn't just "being difficult" at dinner. 🍽️

Mealtime and feeding challenges are genuinely common, and for some children, they go well beyond preference or phase.

Canadian researchers surveying over 2,700 paediatricians nationwide found that the incidence of ARFID in children aged 5–18 in Canada was 2.02 per 100,000 patients, and that only captures the children actually reaching clinical care.

Experts at SickKids note that the average wait to diagnosis is 33 months, meaning most families struggle for years before getting answers.

You don't have to keep waiting for them to grow out of it.

Taproot offers BCBA-led Eating & Mealtime Support for children ages 2–12 (and beyond).

We work with children who are selective eaters, have ARFID, or autism β€” building flexibility, reducing mealtime stress, and making dinner something your family can actually look forward to.

Today is World Autism Day, and we're marking it by celebrating the autistic adults, youth, and families we have the honour of working with.

Autism is not a problem to be solved. It's a different way of moving through the world... one that deserves support built around strengths, not just deficits.

At 🌱Taproot, our work is grounded in rapport, respect, and the belief that every person has the capacity to grow on their own terms. That doesn't change based on diagnosis. It never will.
