We’ve been busy filming across New Brunswick, with lots of great new videos on the way!
Earlier this week, Andy joined Pamela from the Northern Hardwoods Research Institute Inc.and Yves and Patrice from Groupe Savoie Inc. to explore how hardwood management has evolved to help grow more and better hardwoods. Stay tuned for more soon!

Congratulations to the recipient of the 2026 Forest NB Family Strickland Scholarship Nicholas Patton, who is studying at the Maritime College of Forest Technology. Nicholas' father, Darrell, works at AV Group NB in the woodlands division.

Forest NB has awarded the Ernie Strickland Memorial Scholarship annually since 1998 to forest sector family member. This memorial scholarship honours Ernie Strickland, who was an instructor at the Maritime Forest Ranger School and a dedicated volunteer to the forestry sector. The scholarship is administered by the MCFT Alumni association.

Today, the 30th of September is Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

We wear orange to remember children who survived residential schools and honor those who did not, and to honour the commitment that Every Child Matters. By wearing orange shirts, Indigenous and non-Indigenous people come together in remembrance and with the spirit of hope and reconciliation.

Le 30 septembre est la Journée du chandail orange et la Journée nationale pour la vérité et la réconciliation. ( Notre bureau sera fermé Lundi)

Nous portons de l'orange pour nous souvenir des enfants qui ont survécu aux pensionnats amérindiens et honorer ceux qui n'ont pas survécu, et pour honorer l'engagement que chaque enfant compte. En portant des chemises orange, les peuples autochtones et non autochtones se rassemblent dans le souvenir et dans un esprit d'espoir et de réconciliation.

We’re pleased to bring our sector’s perspective to this important conversation about growing opportunity and strengthening communities across the region.

Forest NB’s Communications Manager Andy Tree joined the Northern Hardwoods Research Institute Inc. to help interview some of their collaboration master’s students Sam, Ketlan, and Peter about their research into alternative growing media that could lower emissions from and reduce peat usage.

Thank you to Ben from the City of Fredericton’s Parks & Trees department for the tour and assistance! The collaboration is taking place at the City of Fredericton’s net-zero greenhouse, which uses solar power and an underground heat-storage system to operate without fossil-fuel heating. With capacity for up to 5,000 seedlings, the facility grows trees from locally collected seeds for planting across the city’s parks, trails and green spaces.

On National Tree Day, we’re giving a special shout-out to the researchers helping us better understand, grow, and care for our trees.

Congratulations to the entire Groupe Savoie Inc. team on another successful fundraising golf tournament! Thanks to the incredible generosity of their employees, partners, and community, more than $145,000 was raised for the Hector Savoie Foundation, setting a new fundraising record. What an amazing example of community spirit, teamwork, and commitment to giving back!

Hunting is one of the many ways New Brunswickers connect with our forests and carry on traditions across generations.

As moose hunting season begins during National Forest Week, we encourage everyone heading into the woods to put safety first, stay aware of others and respect our shared forests. Wishing all hunters a safe and successful season!

The 2026 resident moose hunt is from September 22 to 26. This is a week that draws many New Brunswickers into the woods, so be safe.

• Wear your solid or camouflage fluorescent hunter orange

• Purchase your licence and bring it with you

• Make sure you’re hunting in your zone at the correct time

• Stay away from active wildfire areas

Big game registration is available online at: www.gnb.ca/fishwildlife. You can also do this at a moose registration station.

We wish all hunters the best of luck for a safe and successful season!
