This is why radon testing matters.
Manitoba has the highest proportion of homes in Canada with radon levels above Health Canada’s guideline. What’s even more concerning is that Canada’s guideline is twice the World Health Organization’s recommended reference level.

Yesterday, I installed a radon reduction system in a home where the owner had been diagnosed with non-smoker lung cancer in May 2025. Sadly, they passed away in November 2025.

Today, I completed an estimate for another home where the owner’s sister was diagnosed with non-smoker lung cancer. The home where the siblings grew up is now scheduled to have a radon reduction system installed in mid-September.

These situations really drive home why I say: please don't put off testing your home.

Radon is invisible, odourless and tasteless. You can have two houses sitting side by side and one can have radon levels 10 times higher than the other. You simply cannot know your number without testing.

You can borrow a radon tester from your local library or purchase one of the six approved types of radon detectors recognized by Health Canada.

And remember: radon levels are often highest during the colder months, so testing throughout the year is important.

Test your home. Know your number. If your level is high, do something about it.
