What trekking poles do you use and would you buy them again? Let us know👇

I asked my hiking community which poles they use and love, and Black Diamond + LEKI made up the large majority of recommendations, with Black Diamond coming out on top.

Trekology and Cascade Mountain Tech were tied behind them and stood out as more budget-friendly options.

Within the top brands, LEKI’s Cross Trail and Black Diamond’s Alpine/Alpine Cork were among the models that came up.

But there’s no single “best” trekking pole.

What matters is what you want from it:
🥾 Telescoping poles → adjustable, versatile and great for hiking/backpacking
🎒 Folding/Z-poles → compact and easy to stash in your pack or travel with
🪶 Carbon → lighter, but typically more expensive
💪 Aluminum → durable, usually more affordable and can be a great everyday option
🤲 Cork grips → comfortable and great for managing sweaty hands on long days

👉Save this if you’re shopping for trekking poles or send it to a hiking friend who’s looking for a pair.

Comment FHN if you want a copy of my free guide that goes over my top 5 recommended strength exercises for hikers 🌲🥾

1️⃣ B-stance squats

I love all squats and lunges but in particular this one because we have more knee over toe travel.. if you’re not ready for that just start with regular split squats or forward lunges first 👍🏼

2️⃣ Assisted Single Leg RDLs

Assistance means you can use more weight 💪🏼

3️⃣ Short stance step ups

3 reasons I like this variation:
- you’re not able to use momentum as much
- more knee over toe travel = more resilient knees
- increased time under tension for quad 🔥

Make sure you can do regular step ups holding onto additional weight before you focus much of your time on this one ☝️

SAVE this for your workout later! 👍🏼

💪 Comment KNEES and I’ll send you the details on my Trailblazer Lower Body Strength Program - an 8 week program designed to build stronger legs for hiking so you can feel more confident on both the uphills and the downhills.

🏋️ 1. One of the biggest advantages of squatting with a barbell on your back is that it loads your spine.

That isn’t a bad thing - it’s how your back becomes stronger and more resilient for carrying a backpack on the trail.

At the same time, you’re building strength through your glutes, quads, hamstrings, and core.

⬇️ 2. The raised front foot allows you to work through a larger range of motion, making this a great exercise for building strength where hikers need it most.

If you’re just getting started, even a small deficit works well. I also like reverse lunges because they’re usually more stable and comfortable than many other lunge variations, making them an excellent place to build strength before progressing to more challenging options.

3. Downhill hiking requires your knee to repeatedly move over your toes while controlling your body weight.

Forward step downs are one of my favourite ways to train that movement pattern, helping improve knee stability and control for long descents.
