We are extremely proud to recognize and applaud a fellow nation member, Paul Memnook! for his remarkable strength and perseverance.
At a young age, Paul faced separation, instability, uncertainty, loss and even homelessness. Growing up in the foster care system in his early years were marked by challenges that would weigh heavily on anyone. Yet despite every obstacle, Paul continued to search for a better path.
In adulthood, he made the courageous decision to pursue sobriety with determination and discipline. He reached out to TCETSA and to our ISETS department and with the help of both departments we happily supported Paul. He then enrolled into the Bridge Watch Program, taking a powerful step toward rebuilding his life and future.
Through commitment, discipline and determination, Paul continued to rise and eventually achieving the role of Helmsman (The person steering the vessel. They are responsible for keeping the vessel on its course, either by directly controlling the steering or by following the orders of a superior officer), a testament to his hard work and unwavering spirit.
Paul is a profound example of resilience within our people and the truth that it doesn't matter how you start in life, its how you choose to make it!
On November 24th, 2025, we honoured Paul for his perseverance, his leadership and the hope he brings to our community, his peers and family. His story reminds us that with opportunity, guidance and heart, our people can overcome anything.
We are proud of you Paul, ahkameyimok !
