“I DON’T LIKE MEAD. IT ALL TASTES LIKE EAR WAX.”

Those were William’s words the first time we met.

He didn’t even want to try Stolen Harvest Mead.

But I can be… persuasive.

“Just try it.”

He did.

And that was the beginning of a story I’ve now been telling for years.

William became a convert, and ever since, we’ve crossed paths at event after event, where he inevitably finds me and stocks up on Stolen Harvest Mead.

Today, I ran into him again.

And it struck me that somewhere along the way, William became part of the tapestry of the Stolen Harvest story.

I’ve told his “ear wax” story countless times. I’ve stood behind my tasting table and reassured more skeptical mead drinkers than I can count:

“Trust me. It doesn’t taste like ear wax.”

And every single time I say it, I’m really telling a little piece of William’s story too.

That’s one of the things I love most about doing this.

Stolen Harvest isn’t just bottles of mead. It’s the people we meet, the stories we collect, the friendships that develop over the years, and those familiar faces that keep appearing on the other side of the tasting table.

William, thanks for taking that first reluctant sip all those years ago.

And thanks for giving me one of the best sales pitches I’ve ever had:

“Trust me. It doesn’t taste like ear wax.” 🍯😂

OMG. LOOK AT THIS DOWNWARD FACING TOWEL PUPPY!!! 😂❤️

Seriously — how ridiculously cute is this?!

I’m on the road pretty much ALL summer long. Every weekend I’m staying in hotels, motels, B&Bs… you name it. After a while, hotel rooms start to blur together.

But THIS one I’m going to remember.

I walked into my room tonight and there was this little Downward Facing Towel Puppy waiting for me on the bed. 😂

Then I went into the bathroom and noticed the towels and facecloths were all folded and arranged beautifully too.

AND THEY EVEN STAMPED THE END OF THE TOILET PAPER.

Who does that?! 😂❤️

The room itself is really lovely, but it’s these tiny, completely unnecessary little details that made it special. Someone actually cared enough to put a little personality and joy into a stranger’s stay.

Vera prepared my room and even left me a little note.

Vera — THANK YOU. You made my night. ❤️

Of all the places I’ve stayed during my travels this summer, this is easily the most memorable.

And you know what? This is why I’ll come back every time I’m in Sherwood Park.

Sometimes it isn’t the expensive things or the grand gestures that people remember.

Sometimes it’s a Downward Facing Towel Puppy. 🐶

🍯 BIRCH HILLS TRADITIONAL
Mead in its purest form—honey, water, yeast and time. Smooth, rich and honey-forward, this is where to start if you want to know what real mead tastes like.

🫐 SASKATOON SYRAH
Alberta Saskatoon berries meet the dark fruit and character of Syrah grapes, creating a bold, deeply coloured berry-and-wine mead.

🌹 WILD ROSE PETAL
Alberta’s wild rose captured in a bottle. Delicate, aromatic and floral, made with hand-harvested wild rose petals for a distinctly Albertan taste.

🍇 WHITE MUSCADINE PYMENT
A pyment is the ancient marriage of honey and grapes. Fruity, fragrant white Muscadine grapes make this wonderfully different from an ordinary wine.

🍁 ROCKY MOUNTAIN MAPLE
Rich maple rounds out the honey in this smooth, warming mead—made for long tables, roaring fires and raising a cup with good company.
