Became a kitten doula this past weekend 😻 Our Georgia did well birthing her babies.
Something I always tell new nursing mums is, if you aren't sure that they are getting any milk, watch their ears. When they swallow you can see their little ears wiggle!
Baby kitties are the exact same! Look at those little wiggly ears 🐈❤️

These are some scary times for all of us, especially scary with a new little one at home.
Here is a good read by fellow Nurtured Baby member Hailee with Nurturing Sleep Solutions 💜💜

I don’t know if anyone has heard but, there is a virus out there! Ha, that was a sad attempt at a joke right now. We have all been listening to the news, watching the provincial and federal health updates, hearing the local closings on the radio and scrolling through social media. It is scary! Bri...

There is not a whole lot of information at the moment, but a good read. ❤️

We think that it’s so important to share this information with our community! Thank you for sharing this post on Instagram!

“Coronavirus (COVID-19) and pregnancy: ➡️ There's little research so far, and it mostly focuses on women* in their third trimester. ➡️ COVID-19 does not appear to impact third-trimester pregnant women* anymore seriously than non-pregnant women.* ➡️ According to studies in China, the disease does not seem to be passed from mom to baby. When cord blood, amniotic fluid, and throat-swabs samples from these babies were tested, all tested negative for COVID-19. ➡️ Most of these babies were delivered via cesarean birth. There isn't yet much evidence for vaginal births. ➡️ For people in early pregnancy, there is very little info. Because high fevers in early pregnancy can lead to developmental concerns for babies, it's important to consider the possible effects of high-fevers as a common symptom of COVID-19. ➡️ In an article published in the Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology Journal, authors believe an infected person who goes into labor on their own, with labor progressing and appropriate preventative measures are in place, they could have a vaginal delivery, but with a shortened second stage. The worry seems to be the spread of the virus during pushing which requires strong and forceful exhalations that may propel the virus. (I would think that the support of the Fetal Ejection Reflex instead of directed pushing would minimize this risk) ➡️ The vast majority of people who contract the virus, will not have a serious illness. It most typically presents as a regular respiratory illness. It does seem to be impacting the older population more severely. Children seem to be least at risk.
When we look at what we know so far, the evidence is promising that it does not affect pregnant people any more seriously than it does non-pregnant pregnant. However, because it's a rapidly spreading virus, minimizing social interactions may be wise.

The prevention recommendations for pregnant people are the same as for everyone else. So: 👐🏽 Wash your hands. 🙅🏽 Don't touch your face. 🚿 Wash your hands, again.
👩🏽‍💻 Consider minimizing face-to-face social interactions. .

What is the Tea + Talk?

Motherhood can be lonely. It can be HARD! And you moms, yes you, suck at making new mom friends! We have all been there. We know that IT IS O.K. TO NOT BE O.K.!!! Yet, there is still something missing. Taking your first step and being vulnerable about motherhood. Even when going to common mommy groups you talk about all the good and exciting things which can be great but what about the realness of motherhood? The struggles? We want a place to talk about IT ALL!

Over the years, we as fellow moms, have a new understanding that connection with other mother's going through the same stage of life can be very helpful. You don't have to hide away when going through conceiving struggles, leave out the dirty details when talking about your birth experience, pretend that motherhood is perfect when it isn't. or hide your tears when going through other difficult times.

Having a true, strong and NON-JUDGMENTAL support
system is key to having an overall positive motherhood experience. Sharing stories and meeting others who have shared similar experiences can help build strong connections that make you feel at home and help you feel not alone!

You will be heard, valued, supported and loved. You will become a part of a community that truly wants to support each other. Come and join us! Bring your baby or come alone. But...COME, PLEASE!! Take that first step....

Please tag moms that might enjoy this! Thank you!!

Dads! Why are doulas so important?

Look at this picture and think about it... How can you embrace her with all your heart, mind and soul AND give her the hip squeeze or back pressure she also so desperately needs?

Dads, you simply can’t be all the things! We know no one else will love her like you do! We know no one else knows her like you do! Doulas aren’t there to take your place but rather, to make you better available to meet those needs only YOU can meet for her!

Even as a midwife, I know the benefits of doulas. Dads, you won’t regret hiring one- even for a birth center or homebirth!

Why else are doulas so amazing? Check this out
