Notice
There is a new and convenient system for the general public to view and comment on current forest development proposals. Government has set up a new online web portal called Forest Operations Map (FOM), https://fom.nrs.gov.bc.ca/public/projects where all new forest proposals in the Province are shown. It is a very user friendly map, just click a pin in the area you are interested in and the satellite map will zoom right in. Then a tab pops up with information on the proposal and a box to submit comments in during a 30 day time frame.
A new proposal from the Bella Coola Community Forest is now shown on the FOM. This proposal is to conduct some commercial thinning of a 60 year old second growth stand to generate firewood for local commercial sale. The project is in conjunction with a forest fire fuel reduction treatment in the wildland urban interface fire zone south of Hagensborg. Following the thinning and fuel treatment, there will be full forest cover remaining. For further info, see the attached Notice. Give it a try. We are curious to see what people think about this new engagement system.

New event at Logger Sports.
Annual Logger Sports event is on Sunday, September 8.
Passing by the Fall Fair grounds, you can see an addition to the Logger Sports arena - a 40 ft telephone pole with a bell on top.
This is for a new speed climbing race. In a timed event, contestants, using strap and spurs, climb to top and ring bell. Then they are lowered down slowly. BC Hydro safety gear is provided.
Since this is a new event, practice sessions are scheduled for Thursday August 29, Tuesday Sept 3, Thursday Sept 5 7:00 pm at the logger sports grounds for anyone that is interested in trying it out. Throwing axe will also be available for those wanting to practice their throwing skills.

It's that time of year again. Today is 8th day of Extreme fire weather conditions in Bella Coola and today a Province wide camp fire ban is in effect until further notice. Hope we have a fire and smoke free summer.
