Today, May 27, 2026, the Immigration Minister, Lena Diab has announced that Canada is temporarily suspending immigration documents and pausing making final decisions on applications for individuals residing in countries affected by the current Ebola outbreak.
The affected countries are Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Uganda, and South Sudan. This is effective May 27, 2026 at 11:59 PM EDT.
This is a temporary public health measure related to the Ebola outbreak and is NOT a permanent immigration ban.
What does this mean?
-Existing visas, eTAs, and some immigration travel documents from these countries are temporarily suspended for 90 days.
-Applications may continue to be processed during this period:
• However, IRCC will pause final decisions on affected applications for 90 days
• Documents are suspended, but not cancelled
• Individuals already inside Canada are not affected by this measure.
The temporary measure is expected to remain in place until approximately August 29, 2026, unless extended or changed by the government.
