Here we are again…. Odelia and Nerissa from Keeseekoose First Nation. Another wrongful conviction application in Canada. This brings the total of wrongful convictions exonerations to 24. We have recently settled one in Nova Scotia . I was directly involved with this one, and I have serious concerns relating to the process itself. But that’s for another time. What do you think has happened to the original investigations relating to those 24 wrongful conviction exonerations ? Are they shelved? Are the police actively reinvestigating the original cases? I think not. They likely just end up on the cold case shelf with dozens of other unsolved homicides across Canada. Simply gathering dust. While the victim’s family has no closure to the wounds that have been opened by the exoneration.

Digital forensics is the analysis, extraction and review of information or evidence that is located on a device or hard drive. A digital forensic examiner may be required to restore data in order to find the information to assist in an investigation.
As well, we offer cyber investigations which involve finding and locating evidence to support your mission goals. During such an investigation, analysts will search for crucial data related to their operation in open web spaces, such as online news outlets or social media platforms.

Brenda’s Legacy

Everyone would like to leave some type of positive legacy behind by which they will be remembered. Unfortunatly, as with Brenda’s case, the legacy may not be one by which anyone would choose to be remembered. Brenda’s legacy could be one by which an innocent man was convicted of her murder. Based upon my direct involvement as a investigator, in weeks to come, I will identify issues and procedures that arose from the multiyear process to investigate a wrongful conviction application in Canada. An application which could be a fundamentally flawed process in our justice system.
