With the Village on Main's new logo, that got us thinking about the important role local business groups play in keeping the City of Lakes and Harbour East economies vibrant and successful. But who are they? We found 6 of them including the Main Street group... are we missing any?

I attended two great networking sessions last week, hosted by . Tuesday was a group lunch at to meet other local business owners. I enjoyed my club wrap and made a few connections.

On Friday, I ventured out to Bayer's Lake for a morning meeting to discuss social media. The meeting was being held at , which is a fantastic business space. Aside from co-working options, there are also private meeting rooms, break-out, and Zoom rooms. You can also rent private office space and mail and admin services are available.

If you work from home and need an occasional space to meet with clients in the HRM, or you have a small group looking for a place to gather, be sure to consider this bright and welcoming space!

I love the little pocket of downtime I usually have between Christmas and New Year's and I use this time for planning and goal-setting.

By the time the holidays hit, I'm ready to let go of the past year and look forward to the new adventures the next year brings. With that, come lots of ideas floating around in my head. I use this time to list my ideas, write out my goals, and plan the upcoming year.

I like old-school planning, pen and paper. I printed off calendars for preplanning, and have picked up new journals to keep me on track with work tasks and personal routines and goals.

I still need to increase my posting frequency, but with a new month, I thought it would be a good time to do a reintroduction!

I was born and raised in the beautiful province of Nova Scotia, Canada, went to university in Halifax, and headed to Alberta with my BSc Gelogoy/Geography degree in 2004. I spent 15 years in the land surveying industry but ended that abruptly with Covid. I wanted to keep homeschooling and working from home so I started my own business, and I've enjoyed the journey over the last few years.

After moving back to NS in 2021, as a single mom with 2 kids in tow, we finally resettled in Halifax earlier this year. I finally feel at home again, the urban setting mixed with the smell of the salt air and ocean breeze soothes my soul. NS is currently going through a hard time though, with many out-of-control wildfires and devastation left in their paths. Bluenosers are strong and resilient and will overcome this too, just like we did after Hurricane Fiona in the fall and many disasters before that.

Travel is a deep part of me (self-professed geography nerd 🤓) so I will continue to explore near and far in the future. You can follow my travel side at Mapping Out Joy .

In my work world, I am an Executive Assistant, Marketing Coordinator, Social Media Manager, Content Creator, and much more! I'm a continuous learner and want to dig deeper into graphic design and web design later this year. I am currently full for work, but over the summer and fall, I might have the capacity for 1 or 2 smaller side projects.

When you think of the perfect day, what does it include? Does it include work or just relaxation?

In the fall of 2020, I was out of work and just started taking the course 90 Day VA. One of the first questions posed was along the lines of what's your vision of a perfect day. I was a single mom homeschooling two kids and I had worked from home for 7 years prior, so I knew I wanted to keep those elements. But I envisioned more to my day.

I wanted a relaxing start, beginning with yoga or a walk. I wanted to live in a walkable neighborhood, so I could grab a meal from a local cafe. I NEEDED to be near the ocean again. But I was currently in landlocked Alberta, so a lot needed to change to make my perfect day happen.

But from that day forward, I put my plan into action. I started planning a cross-country move, back to my home province of Nova Scotia (Canada's Ocean Playground 🌊), while learning how to run a virtual business and gain clients.

We moved in Sept '21 to an ocean-view off-season cottage close to where I grew up. A step closer, and it was amazing to be back home, but still not quite where I wanted to be.

So in Jan, we moved to Halifax. I see the ocean every day, I have a morning routine that includes time with my kitties, yoga or a walk (or both), my kids and I are learning about the history of the area and visiting educational attractions, and there are lots of amazing local places to check out.

A few days ago I was feeling a little blah, so I figured it was a good time to walk a few minutes past my go-to mainstream tea shop, to a local cafe. I'm so glad I did! I picked up a delicious chai latte, a samosa to heat up for lunch, and I couldn't pass up the date square that was calling my name! Hands down, this was one of the best lunches that I've had in a while!

It was when I was sitting down at my desk to work that I realized I had manifested and created the day I was looking for, just over two years ago. I did it with a positive mindset and a lot of determination and hard work.

Happy Digital Learning Day! 💻

This day is celebrated on the last Thursday of February and highlights the benefits of online learning like increased access to educational resources and personalized learning experiences.

I have been a , from scouring encyclopedias 📖 as a kid to a B.Sc degree in University 🎓, followed by Continuing Education courses at local colleges. I dived into the world well before Covid, but the digital learning landscape has drastically changed in recent years, increasing the options and opportunities available.

Digital learning has allowed me to:

⏩ start my own business
⏩ learn new skills &
⏩ continue to grow personally and professionally

I have courses in Adobe Illustrator, graphic design, and WordPress development waiting for me to take when I find the time, and I am signed up for free workshops and conferences that showcase important topics in business.

This page has been silent for quite some time.

Since I was last here:
➡️ My business grew steadily and I've been working full-time hours for over a year
➡️ My skills have expanded, bringing familiarity with new apps and processes
➡️ I packed up and moved across the country with my kids
➡️ We went on a 10-week road trip this past summer, 3 cats included 🐈🐈🐈
➡️ We went 13 days without power this past fall after Hurricane Fiona arrived on my birthday
➡️ Getting ready to make a final move (for quite a while at least!) to Halifax in the next few days

In the coming weeks, I will be turning my attention to re-branding and re-launching my business.
