Last week, as a citizen representative member of the Town of Berwick, NS, Acessibility Advisory Committee, I moved a motion for the town to officially recognize Access Awareness Week (AAW), May 31-June 6, 2026. The motion was unanimously approved and the town raised the AAW flag accordingly.

AAW aims to highlight the significance of eliminating barriers to enabling equitable access and equal participation for persons living with disabilities.

This is a big milestone for Berwick. It marks the first time that the town raised the AAW flag since the week was initially observed in Nova Scotia in the 1980s. Also, it signals the town's commitment to realizing the province's Access by Design 2030 framework.

Way to go for a small town doing big things. 👏

I acknowledge the efforts of fellow committee members. And commend staff and council for their work on accessibility related files and for leveraging citizens’ knowledge and expertise to advancing inclusive public policies, programs, and infrastructure projects. This approach to municipal governance is crucial to creating a municipal that works for everyone.

Yesterday I joined the Black, Indigenous and Persons of Colour (BIPOC) Academy, Faculty of Graduate Studies, Dalhousie University for their Wrap-Up event in honour of participants and their collective achievements. It was a great opportunity to connect with fellow graduate students, mentors, and staff.

I’m pleased to have been a member of the academy and truly thankful for the knowledge garnered.

Special shout out to all the mentors and staff who stepped up, supported students, and made the program possible.

Now, I look forward to new ways to connect with others and to give back to the community.

If you’re a graduate student at Dal or a community member and would like to connect, don’t hesitate to send me a direct message.

Love and light,
Kenisha

Giving Dr. Ann Divine her flowers 💐🌹🌼

Today, Dr. Ann Divine demonstrated what it truly means to move forward while widening the path for others, especially for Black women across community leadership, academia, the social sector, and public service. She did this by intentionally passing the mic to community-centred changemakers and by mobilizing nearly 300 women—government ministers, public sector leaders, academics, community activists, and innovators—for the Unstoppable Women's Conference, held at Mount Saint Vincent University.

Dr. Divine is the Founder and CEO of Ashanti Leadership and the Black and Immigrant Women Network. I've had the privilege of collaborating with her on council-wide inclusion training during my time at the Municipality of the County of Kings, and on the WCB’s (NS) first IDEA Roadmap. So today was yet another opportunity to witness her brilliance and leadership in service to community and the empowerment of the next generation of women changemakers.

One moment particularly stood out. Dr. Divine invited the audience to speak aloud the names of Black and African Nova Scotian women who have lived lives of service to community and country. This mattered deeply to me. Black women's contributions are too often overlooked, or actively erased, especially in strategic spaces. Naming them is an act of recognition, responsibility, and strategic disruption.

Thank you to Dr. Divine and the Unstoppable Conference planning committee for the confidence and invitation to participate in such a powerful and supporting space.

More reflections on Unstoppable to come—but today, I honour the leadership that made this space possible.

Kenisha Gordon

I’m happy to share that I’ve been involved with Dalhousie University - Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Committee as Graduate Student Representative.

The committee is a standing committee of the faculty and aims to support the realization of its EDIA-related goals. To this end, the committee will collaborate with university-level committees, departmental and faculty committees, student, staff, and faculty caucuses on EDIA, and with community-based organizations to make recommendations to FASS Faculty Council to advance EDIA within the Faculty.

I’ve been working with the committee since Q4, 2025, and they are an amazing bunch.

I’m excited about the year ahead and all that we’ll achieve.

In solidarity with the beautiful people of my island home, Jamaica. Hurricane Melissa has caused severe damage across the island. However, as always, the resilient spirit of Jamaicans remains unshaken.

If you are wondering how you can support the rebuilding efforts, Prime Minister Holness and the relevant authorities have launched supportjamaica.gov.jm, where you can contribute to the nation's recovery.

This too shall pass, Jamaica 🖤💚💛

My prayers are with the people of Jamaica, as Hurricane Melissa moves through. Please take all necessary precautions, check in on loved ones and neighbours, and follow local safety updates. 🙏🏾

3 days. One powerful event.

The 2025 Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC) National Public Service Symposium brought together key public servants, academics, private sector partners, and leaders from all levels of government under the theme: Navigating Change. Leading with Purpose.

I had the privilege of attending as a delegate for the Dalhousie University Faculty of Management and Ambassador for the MPA program — here are a few reflections that stood out to me:

Day 1️⃣: The opening reception underscored the collaborative impact required to foster a future-ready Canadian public service. I left energized by conversations with leaders from across the country and by engaging with both current and aspiring MPA students who will be tomorrow’s changemakers.

Day 2️⃣: The pace of change is swift. To create real public value, governments must not only respond urgently to complex policy challenges but also invest in upskilling the workforce and engaging citizens meaningfully.

Day 3️⃣: Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the public service isn’t just about technology—it’s about culture. As one speaker noted: “Technology will always work—the key is shaping and sustaining positive cultures and mindsets to support the public service transformation.”

Importantly, moving from a “know-it-all” to a “learn-it-all” mindset will be critical for digital transformation—backed by effective change management strategies that align people with strategic vision.

Key takeaway: culture “eats” strategy always. Invest in inclusive culture that enable ownership of deliverables, risk taking, innovation, horizontal partnerships, and cross-fertilization of knowledge.

👏Special thanks to the Faculty of Management and Michelle Hunter for this incredible opportunity. It was a pleasure to spend time with Krista Cullymore at the Faculty’s booth, connect with aspiring MPA students, and meet leaders from across Canada who are driving impact and leading with purpose.

And just like that, Kace is 5! 🎊🥳🎁🎉

Yesterday was an absolute blast as we celebrated with family and friends at his race car–themed party 🏎️ 🏎️. What a day to remember! It’s such a blessing to watch our son grow and shine as the smart, kind, and curious boy he is.

Love and Light!
