It's time for my annual post about the joy that creating T4s brings me, especially when they are for my own company and employees.

I usually describe payroll as a 2,000 piece puzzle that you only know if you have all the pieces until the end of the year. Well the puzzle for the 2020 T4s was increased to 2,005 with the additions of boxes 57-60 for COVID-19, and the addition of a taxable benefit for the personal use of my business vehicle to my own T4. And with the additions of TEWS/PD27s and CEWS among others, there was a lot of payroll-related learning this year!

And while I'm celebrating the Clearview T4s being finished last night, they're about one month later than I like to get them done. My impossibly early standards weren't able to be met this year, but there's always next year!

Happy to have created a total of 71 T4s -- 65 for a total of nine clients and then six for Clearview, including mine. Happy, happy, joy, joy.

New for today! If you worked from home for some or all of the months since COVID-19 arrived, you can calculate your personal tax deduction without needing a T2200 from your employer. (Yay for that!)

This year has been filled with unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

FYI: If your business manages payroll on your own and not through a payroll service, did you know that you should have both a CRA web access code to prepare T4s and a Service Canada ROE web account to prepare ROEs? Don't wait until your first employee leaves to discover that these aren't the same and that you can't prepare the ROE on time! 👍🏻

It's anniversary time! 🥳 Last week was Clearview's 3rd anniversary, and we're celebrating by offering free payroll checkups, while supplies last. Just in time to be ready for T4s. Signup link is in the comments.

Thanks to everyone who has supported these first three years -- so much has been learned along the way, including changes to payroll/T4s for 2020. (🤯)

It's a big day in Nova Scotia -- at home school year ending and many businesses opening for the first time in a modified way. I'm not involved first-hand in either, but am wishing the best of luck to everyone today. 🤩

Proud to be a Nova Scotian!

But in all seriousness: if your outing isn't essential. And if you were stopped on the way, would you be embarrassed to say why you're out? Think before you drive!
