We are beyond excited to finally share a LITTLE something weโve been working on behind closed doors at the studio over the last several months! On now at the Art Gallery of Ontario, โMy 90โs Rock Photographsโ by Melissa Auf der Maur Melissa Auf der Maur
It has been an incredible honour and privilege to help bring this exhibition to life and see it presented in such a beautiful and important Canadian cultural venue. It has put our studio to the test in every capacity, from scanning of all the original 35mm film negatives, editing, printing, and finally preparing the work for final exhibition.
As children of the 80โs/90โs, and teenagers of the early 2000โs, this exhibition has been especially interesting to work on both for its connection to the music of that era of which we are big fans, but also for its behind the scenes depiction of the rock world during that time and the larger counter cultural movement it represents.
As artists, printmakers, and photographers, working on a collection like this is particularly special because of the pivotal moment in time it captures and the precipice it sits upon marking the seeming end of analog, and the rapid shift toward a digital future. This is a reality we are regularly confronting and playing with in our own studio through the multitude of historic and contemporary image making methods we employ on a daily basis.
