September 30 | National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Today, CoWork at the Cotton Factory acknowledges the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

As settlers in these lands, we recognize that the place where we work, create, gather, and build community has a history that reaches far back before us. We acknowledge the Indigenous peoples who have cared for these lands and waters since time immemorial, and we honour the strength, resilience, cultures and living traditions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.

Truth and Reconciliation asks more of us than remembrance. It asks us to listen, to learn, to acknowledge the ongoing impacts of colonialism and residential schools, and to consider what it means to be an ally and a responsible member of the community.
We invite our CoWork community to take time today to learn from Indigenous voices and organizations, and to continue that learning throughout the year.

We especially encourage you to visit the Woodland Cultural Centre in Brantford, https://woodlandculturalcentre.ca an important place to learn about the history and legacy of residential schools, as well as Indigenous culture, heritage, reclamation, and resurgence.

We have also gathered resources for those who would like to learn more about Truth and Reconciliation, residential schools and how we can all take meaningful steps toward reconciliation.

Learning is an important part of the work. Listening is an important part of the work. And reconciliation is ongoing.

Hamilton Arts & Culture Forum, Councillor Candidate Debate

At the Cotton Factory on Sept. 28, the Hamilton Arts Council and the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra are hosting a councillor candidate debate on arts, culture, and the future of Hamilton.

The organizations ask people to RSVP but say anyone can attend the free event, which starts at 7 p.m.

"The non-partisan forum will highlight the significant role arts and culture play in Hamilton’s economy and quality of life," they said in a news release.

Candidates received a questionnaire and will discuss their answers, which will also be published in Hamilton City Magazine.
