In environments where every decision can impact productivity, cost, and environmental performance, clarity is a game changer.

Faced with upcoming regulatory changes, operators at two mining sites found themselves wondering which machines in their fleets were the biggest contributors to diesel emissions.

Like many large operations, both had diverse fleets but lacked a consistent, data-driven way to compare emissions performance across equipment.

Using standardised baseline emissions testing across the entire fleet, the Mammoth team evaluated each machine using the same equipment under the same conditions. This created a true apples-to-apples comparison of diesel particulate emissions.

From there, the insights became actionable. By layering in key variables like engine size and utilization, these sites could clearly identify the highest-emitting units in their fleet and prioritise the worst offenders for maintenance, retrofit, or replacement.

Find out how baseline testing can help your operation stay ahead of tightening emissions regulations. Reach out to a Mammoth product specialist today.

Why do you need to clean a DPF?

As a DPF collects particulate matter, the passage of exhaust gas through the pores of the filter element may be progressively blocked, causing an increase in exhaust backpressure. Over time the accumulation of ash will gradually continue to increase backpressure. Long term buildup of ash is remedied by periodic filter cleaning. Cleaning of ash from retrofit DPFs is typically required every 6 to 12 months or 3000 hours. DPF Cleaning is a restorative process that regenerates and cleans the DPF, extending the serviceable life considerably.

Today’s customer success story shows what happens when real-world challenges meet hands-on innovation.

At a large gold mine in Northern Ontario, Canada, maintenance teams were struggling with the placement of the diesel particulate filter (DPF) on CAT AD30 underground trucks. Positioned directly beneath the hydraulic tank, the standard muffler location made it extremely difficult to access and remove the DPF for cleaning and servicing, leading to increased downtime and added frustration for mechanics.

The Mammoth team developed a smarter, safer solution: a custom belly plate system that allows the DPF to be safely dropped out from the bottom of the vehicle. This innovative modification allowed for easier servicing, improved mechanic safety, and increased uptime.

Every site presents unique challenges, and that’s where Mammoth thrives. Reach out to one of our product specialists today and put our problem-solving mindset to work for you. Your operation could be the next Mammoth success story.

At Mammoth, there is one principle at the core of everything we do: helping people get home safe every day.

We focus on designing risk out of the system, rather than managing consequences later. From uncontrolled heat and fire hazards to emissions, air quality, and noise exposure, our solutions are built to address the risks you often can’t see.

Here's what that looks like on-site:

🔥 Engineered thermal protection systems that reduce fire risk, burn injuries, and heat stress
🍃 Emissions and filtration solutions that improve air quality and reduce long-term health impacts
🔊 Noise suppression technologies that lower fatigue and hearing damage while improving communication
📋 Data-backed audits and testing to identify risks before incidents occur

Mining and heavy industry will always involve risk; the difference is how those risks are managed. Because when risk is removed, people are safer, equipment lasts longer, downtime is reduced, and operations become more reliable.

What happens when engine vibration disrupts your operation?

A major mining operation in the rugged high desert region of north-central Nevada was struggling with recurring exhaust leaks on their PC5500 and PC7000 excavators. A slip-fit exhaust connection was separating under engine vibration, filling the engine room with heat and smoke and triggering the fire suppression system.

Our team stepped in with a redesigned exhaust connection that eliminated the failure point, and restored system integrity. The result was improved reliability, reduced downtime, and enhanced operator safety.

We’re committed to delivering solutions that make a real difference. If you’re facing challenges that go beyond simple maintenance, our team is ready to help.

Nevada mining conditions do not go easy on equipment.

High heat, fine dust, long run times, and heavy production demands can all add pressure to critical machine systems.

That is why Mammoth will be at the Elko Mining Expo, connecting with mining teams looking to reduce downtime, manage emissions related maintenance, and keep equipment performing in harsh operating environments.

From replacement DPFs and SCR rebuilds to heat control, fire prevention, and equipment protection, Mammoth supports the machines that keep mining operations moving.
