The 2023 wildfire season had a tremendous impact on the Upper Hay Region, burning over 580,000 ha of tenured forest.

Most of this forest has started to regenerate naturally. However, to assist this natural regeneration, the forestry companies are planting 6,000 ha in the most severely burned areas. This includes new approaches, such as the introduction of pine to help re-establish a healthy forest.

This improves the future resilience of the region's forests to both natural and human-influenced disturbance!

The report for Mackenzie County includes lots of interactive graphs, maps, species lists, and tables that display information covering human footprint, wetland area, and biodiversity intactness (birds, mammals, and plants).
