You’ve seen David Blackwood’s artwork on every bottle of Closson Chase. But have you ever looked closely at what it represents?
The celebrated Canadian painter and printmaker created the original artwork for Closson Chase, inspired by Prince Edward County’s maritime tradition. Our label draws on international signal flags, with red, white and blue forming the foundation of his painting.
Each detail carries meaning. The red speaks to life and the animating qualities of w**e, while the letter “C” and its reflection in the water echo the County’s island-like landscape, surrounded by water.
It’s a piece of art that has been part of our identity for years, with a story worth revisiting.
And soon, it will take on a new presence with a w**e of its own.
