ODG (Ozone-Depleting Gas) refrigerant tags and labels are essential for complying with Federal and Provincial environmental regulations regarding the handling, recovery, and disposal of refrigerants that damage the ozone layer (such as CFCs and HCFCs).
These tags, often referred to as ODP (Ozone Depleting Potential) tags or Refrigerant Evacuation/Certification Tags, are required to be attached to refrigeration or air conditioning systems to indicate the status of the refrigerant, typically following federal and provincial regulations in Canada.
For compliance with Canadian regulations, it is important that the labels are durable, weather-resistant, and clearly indicate that the equipment is not to be charged with an ozone-depleting substance.
Key Aspects of ODG/ODP Tags:
• Compliance: These tags help ensure compliance with Canadian federal and provincial halocarbon regulations.
• Required Information: They generally contain fields for the date of evacuation, refrigerant type, owner of the unit, servicing company, and the technician’s signature.
• Typical Usage: Used when refrigerant is removed (evacuated) from a system, when a leak test is conducted, or when a system is retrofitted, as per environmental protection requirements.
• Durability: These labels are typically made of durable vinyl with high-tack, cold-temperature, or acrylic adhesive and are often UV-cured to withstand harsh conditions, ensuring they remain legible and attached.
• Color-Coding: Many refrigerant ID labels are color-coded to easily identify the refrigerant type (e.g., orange or white labels).
• Types: Tags can indicate "Refrigerant Removed," "Evacuation Certificate," or identify specific refrigerants like R-134A, R-404A or R1234-YF.
